XP start ends at backround picture

My old desktop pc is 30g and I have upgraded the virtual mem and self-installed a cdrw (has now been giving me error messsages for the last year or so, so I have not been able to back up to cd). I vaguely remember that an independant PC-Guy reformatted when I had a virus that I could not kill (this was before I knew you guys)...I started getting Windows Authentication messages earlier this year but it did'nt like my key code and I have just ignored and continue past the message when I start up and it has been fine, but it has occured to me that the repair guy used his OS disc not mine so now I am going to have reformat all these years later.

I bought a new laptop in May (Vista...hate it) but it looks like I am going to have to reformat the old XP again but I have an Ipod associated with the XPPC that I have not been able to xfer to the new laptop, and I would also like to save all of my Outlook emails. Since my CDRW is not functioning I have been transfering docs and stuff with a jump drive. Is there a way to transfer my music and Outlook emails too?

Is this a reasonalble request and is this the right forum to post in?

 

You're obviously already familiar with using your Flash Drive to transfer files, so why stop short of Music and email files? Just keep doing what you were doing.

Your email files are all .dbx files and copy quite easily, that is if you're using Outlook Express.

My email is in Outlook (not Express) so I dont recognize the extention.

I think the music is more specific to proceedure because even though my Ipod is sinked with the computer, I dont see the same amount of files and songs on the computer as I doo in the Ipod...I am try to see if I can somehow just make my new laptop the new master...Is there an Ipod Forum here or somewhere that you would recommend.
