XP tells me that there is a virus....

windows pops up a message saying that there is a virus and please run AVG to remove it. I have ran AVG, Adaware, and downloaded AntiVir program and none of them can pick this virus up. Its been popping up for a few days now.

the folder that the pop up tells me is:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{FD249EA1-A6FB-433D-911A-9485093F90343}RP16\A0001864.exe

i tried to access the System Volume folder but it gives me access denied.

any way to get rid of this stupid virus

please help!!

 

You'll have to turn off System Restore-- losing all restore points in the process-- to remove it from there. Remember that checking the box disables System Restore, and unchecking it turns it back on. You can check the box and press Apply, and then uncheck it and press Apply again. Some would tell you you need to reboot before reactivating it, but I have found that not to be necessary-- I never hear about the same virus again.

Start -> My Computer -> right click -> Properties -> System Restore tab

It won't likely be the same one, but the possibility exists that it can happen again, under similar circumstances.
