yahoo mail question

Hello all, hope you can help me with this. Got an e-mail from a friend from
her work computer as she is having this problem on her home machine. She
has 2 yahoo accounts and gets the same message on both, and is afraid to
download the cert for fear of a virus. below is a cut and paste of her e-mail.
This is on a Win98 system.

That's very annoying. I don't see how this site's(a248.e.akamai.net) verification, is blocking Yahoo. It's possible that it's an advertising site but I'd be leery of it. I would access the Yahoo.com site directly. Create a new ID and see if this new ID triggers a verification message. Here's the info that WHOIS supplied on akamai.net.

I just checked ARIN WHOIS

Perhaps they're out of business.???

 

Further reading would indicate that akamai.net is an identification string that Akamai( the internet server builders) uses to relay advertising. The original content could come from anywhere so be very careful with this one.
