After a long battle with zeroaccess rootkit (and great information from this site), I am now at a point where my ps2 keyboard and mouse are not working. Plugging in a USB mouse works. The keyboard and mouse stopped working after combofix did its thing. Reboots and alternate keyboards and mice do not change the situation. Not sure where to go from here. I have read about some instances of this but have found no resolution. Suggestions/recommendations for next steps? Thanks in advance.

Can you attach the log from ComboFix? We would also like to see the other requested logs from the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Also, try to run this:
    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

    TimW,

Thanks for your reply. I no longer have access to the PC, but I will be looking at it again this Saturday to attempt to repair Windows Updates. I was able to get the keyboard and mouse working. What worked was a combination (I'm not sure which fixed it exactly) of replacing the keyboard .sys file and uninstalling the keyboard from the device manager and "scanning for changes" and a couple reboots. Once I got the keyboard and mouse back, I scanned with Super Anti Spyware, Malware Bytes, and Microsoft Security Essentials and all showed clean after removal of some cookies and some (I believe unrelated) toolbars. I think it was combofix that really did the trick to getting this system back up and running. The loss of the keyboard and mouse, may have been removal or damage to a system file either by the rootkit or combofix. At any rate the system is working much better than before. I will post the log (when I can get it) if you wouldn't mind giving it a once over to be sure. I am also researching how to best fix Windows Update as accessing the Windows Update website with the machine results in a hung up webpage after the message that states that it is checking your system. I was thinking of giving http://www.majorgeeks.com/Tweaking.com_-_Windows_Repair_d7141.html a try this weekend. Appreciate any other input or advice you may have. Thanks!

Attach the logs when you get a chance and I will look to see if you have any remaining issues with malware.

Please Disable Spybot's TeaTimer --> Should have been done as per the R&R instructions!

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.

Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop.

TeaTimer disabled. Sorry, I missed it first time around. Logs of Avenger and OTL attached.

Changes I made since last log:
    - used Windows Repair from Tweaking.com (Windows Update Repair only) to fix Windows Update
    - used the steps located here to fix .Net Framework that was not updating properly; after fix several instances of old installations tried to start - cancelled all.
    - followed your Spybot, Avenger, and OTL steps.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
