    Hi there,

I had an issue where my browsers keep crashing. I've tried running virus scans and CCleaner, that doesn't work - or, I should say, it sometimes helps short term. I tried running the Read & Run Me first, that worked for maybe about 1-2 weeks, then the problem is back again. I don't know if it's Malware or something else. I'll be using the browser with a few different tabs open and I'll try to do something (open a new tab, click a link, etc) when the whole thing just closes on its own. It'll start out not being too bad - happening now and then to happening daily to happening every few minutes.
I also notice I can't get rid of something called Screen Rec, it shows up if I reboot the computer. I don't know how I got it, but also no clue how to remove. Any help you can offer would be great! I'm not sure if I'm posting this is in the right place.

On the Read & Run Me, I had issues with the MGTools. I didn't know what I do. I got an error when I tried to run it. I attempted to follow what to do in the post, and ran the GetLogs file, but also got an error. I've included screen shots of the two errors.

Error with MGTools GetLogs file.JPG Error while MGTools was running.JPG

I've included some specs below, but let me know if I'm missing any information.

    Specs:
    Windows 10 Pro
    64 bit operating system
    Intel Core i7-4770k

    Thank you for your help!

There were definitely instances of adware found by Hitman Pro. I also see that you have AVG, or at least did. How often do you use BitTorrent? How many browser extensions are you running? What is your current antivirus?

I'm not sure if I have AVG, don't see it now. I use Avira for antivirus. I've run it and it's come up clean.
It's very rare for me to use BitTorrent. As for browser extensions, I tend to have a LOT open, I can admit that - usually 5-6 windows with multiple tabs open. When it started crashing, I pared it down. Finally I went to only one window open with no more than 3-4 tabs, and it would still crash. Both Chrome and Brave are crashing. Firefox seems to work fine, thus far. I think it's crashed on me only once since I posted.

    Hi there,

I ran the scan, and it came up clean. I've attached the txt file.

    Have you tried resetting Chrome?

Reset it to default settings? No, I haven't done that, yet.

Is that what I need to try doing? Reset Chrome to default settings? I'm not sure what to do. :)

    Greetings.

Though your issue may be browser specific, multiple browser crashes tend to point to a wider issue.

    Please do this.

    Oh My!
I tried right clicking the link and save as to desktop, but couldn't get the option to run as administrator. I was able to click the link and save it and run as admin that way. Hopefully that works, as well. I included a screenshot of what I saw when I tried to right click, save as, and run as admin as well as the 2 reports.

That's so weird, I did attach them to my post. I don't know why they didn't show up. Hopefully it works this time.

    Thank you for the reports.

    Hi there,
I'd like to keep Nielsen Online, I downloaded it intentionally as I'm part of their program.

I've attached the fixlog. That seems to have gotten rid of screenrec!

    • Download SFCFix and save it to your Desktop
    • Right click on the icon and select Run as administrator
    • When prompted Press any key to continue . . . 3 times
    • Allow the process to complete, which can take as long as 15 minutes
    • When completed press Enter and a report will appear on your Desktop
    • Copy and paste the contents of the report in your reply
    • If the tool fails to run or errors are present in the report zip and upload the entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to Gofile or the file hosting site of your choice and post the download link in your reply

No problem! Thank you for helping me with all of this.
I couldn't get the tool to work.

Here's a gofile link for what you requested: https://gofile.io/d/pVMEsB
I also got the attached file from SFCfix after it gave me an error and included a screenshot of the error in case that helps.
I have a new issue now. I can't open pictures by double clicking them and opening with Photos (which used to work until today). I have to right click and open with something else. I included the screenshot of that error, as well (screenshot 6)

Adding on, I'm noticing a few other issues that I didn't have before. I can't open the windows menu on the lower left side of the screen (desktop PC) - neither with clicking on it nor with clicking the windows key on my keyboard. Right click doesn't work on the taskbar. I can't open my calculator on my computer. It opens with a flash and immediately closes.

Thus far, the browsers haven't crashed, though.

Thank you for the information. Sorry about the hiccup you are experiencing.

Press ctrl + alt + del keys at the same time
    Select Task Manager
Under Processes scroll down to Windows Explorer
Right click on the entry and select Restart

If that does not work press the Windows Key + R at the same time. Type rstrui then hit Enter. You should be presented with a System Restore screen. Work your way through it and select the System Restore Point created by FRST yesterday. Let me know if that works.

    Let me know the results

Ok I got that to pull up with the Windows Key + R option, but I only see one restore point and it's for this morning. Nothing there for yesterday. Am I in the right place?

Yes, you are at the right place. The listed Restore Point was created after you experienced the new symptoms, correct?

Did you attempt this? If so, can you explained what happened?

  24. SweetLD215

    SweetLD215 Private E-2

    Yes that's correct.

I did try that one. I did ctrl + atl + del keys at the same time, I got the screen to select task manager. Task manager popped up and I did find Windows Explorer, and right clicked, selected restart, but then nothing happened. I waited about a minute, but nothing came up on screen so then I did the other method you wrote and that gave me the system restore option

Thank you for clarifying. I want to make sure we are in sync since your current situation was unexpected.

Did you happen to notice a Windows Update after applying the Fix and before you noticed the symptoms?

    Please do this.

    • Click OK
    • Copy and paste PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted after the Command Prompt then press Enter

    I didn't notice a windows update but I suppose it's possible I missed it?

I tried the directions but when I enter in Start-Process powershell -Verb RunAs and hit enter, I get:
'Start-Process' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    Hi there,

Everything is working now and so far, the browser hasn't crashed again. I've only been testing it about half a day though as I wasn't home yesterday. I didn't get any report or anything. But I took a screenshot of the end of the powershell run in case that's helpful.

Great, let's continue to monitor things for a day or two. While we wait, please do this.

    ESET Online Scanner

    --------------------

Note: You can expect this process to take a long time, up to several hours or more.
    • Download ESET Free Online Scanner and save it to your Desktop
    • Right click on esetonlinescanner_enu.exe and select Run as administrator
    • NOTE: If the program immediately crashes rename esetonlinescanner_enu.exe to ESET.exe and attempt it again
    • Click Computer Scan
    • Click Full scan
    • Select Enable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications
    • Click Start scan

I did wait a day but hadn't run the ESETScan yet, and yesterday the browser did freeze completely. I reopened everything, so far it's been working well.
I ran the ESETScan this morning and attached the log report.

My apologies, I didn't realize both were zipped under System.

I have located the issue. Chrome itself is not the problem and that is why there was no crash information in the Chrome report you previously provided. The issue involves the amount of available memory on your system.

Chrome can consume a lot of resources but your computer specs should be able to handle it. Something is eating memory so that when Chrome tries to gobble up the memory it needs to continue to run the computer detects a Resource Exhaustion condition causing the system (Chrome) to freeze. That would explain the Brave browser freeze as well.

As a side note, I may want to completely uninstall Avira then reinstall if you'd like because it needs to be streamlined.

    Please do this.

Hi there, I did run that, but maybe I did something wrong?
Ok so I closed Chrome completely, then went back and did the Chrome without extensions step. Then reopened Chrome. Is that correct? I think the first time, I didn't close Chrome first. This definitely changed the resource monitor now.
