gaming problem or?

hello all

i got this weird thing goin on inside the fnflls server of the game renegade
for a few weeks now i get laggy after a pm with some1
i thought at first that it was a specific person but it isnt
after the pm i become laggy and laggier then i notice more traffic and then a dramatic fps loss 45/50 to 28/34
after that its suddenly as normal with a fps of 45/50
im not into internet connections whatsoever so i hope some1 can tell me something about these symptoms
i have a cable connection chello 1 mb
doin frequent virusscans
having mcafee internet security running in stealth mode
