Basically No. It could be a bad burn, but it sounds like your hardware is not to Linux's liking - or more exactly to Puppy's liking

You could try some of the 'cheat codes' - which means booting options

Instead of pressing return to boot, you need to add an option

type.... (as one possible cure)

Code:
puppy acpi=off
If you have no joy and need a similar lightweight distro for old hardware
Try DSL (Damn Small Linux) (50 MB download - google it)

I think that I havekilled the hard drive. Oh well - easy come easy go. But I'll write that one down - These old laptops are just too much fun to fool with.
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Default Re: Kernel Panic ! not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

This is a bumped thread.

This is an error I am seeing on NEW hardware. Seems I did not unmount either my USB drive or my Sansa (MP3 player) correctly and now grub is borked.

Cool to see all the leds flash, not cool to have rebooted to a Live CD or as I now am running Mint from a 2GB Crucial Thumbdrive....

Anyone with ideas?

Ubuntu Hardy and this was the updates for 08/23/08 I believe.

What do I delete to get back to what I want or where do I look?
