Default VOLCANO 9 with smart case fan 2

HEY! I just had to pass on how good this cpu cooler works. The heatsink is as big as a sink could be and still fit I think.Along with the GEM smart fan 2.That is the new one that comes with three ways to install. It has a temp sensor and adjust the fan speed for you, jumper for full fan speed,or the way I went a reostat that alows you to manualy adjust the fan speed.I keep my cpu (900 Athlon runnin at 1155mhz) at a cool 27C 32C under load. With a cheapo fan I couldn't get my cpu over 1100mhz and that was even unreliableand my temps were 55C.You are thinkin that thing must be loud as hell to cool that well..Well at full fan speed 5400(4800is what they say it runs)it is loud but I really never need to turn it up that much.I keep mine at around 3800 27C and the power supply is louder.I only put on high speed when playin games.I mounted the fan switch in a open drive bay I had.I just drilled a hole to put switch through and super gued the wirein to the back of the bay cover and it works great.I put a ceral box toy on the switch to dress it up some.Looks cool.Damn that was longer then I thought it would be.SUBLIME

AthlonXP 2000+ Palomino "A" core ( meaning, it runs HOT).
stock 24*C (idle) & 28*C (full load)

at 1,83Ghz it's at 38*C (idle) & 44*C (full load).

keep in mind that this is a replacement of my other XP2000+ and as such needs to be burned in fully still, so temps will probably lower a couple of degrees.
I also need to re-lap the cpucore with ArcticSilver3 Compound 'cause the store just lapped it with some rubbish...

hey fleppen,
what are the specs on your 80mm Papst fan? the only 80mm papst i can find is 12db and 19.4CFM...

i have found a 92mm that is 23db and 35.9CFM.

do you think the 80mm will suffice for my Tbred 2200+? just wondering

so heres the real question:
should i get 2 92mm fans (one on heatsink, the other as a case fan) or should I get 3 80mm fans ( once heatsink, 2 Case)?

Papst N2/G 80x25 case fan
Speed monitoring: yes
Speed adjustable: no
Air movement: 69 m³/h
Soundlevel: 32dB(A)
Fanspeed: 3100RPM
Power: 2.0W
Frequencyrange: 8-15V

Papst PDF file (requires AcrobatReader)

And yes, I do believe the 80MM fan will suffice for your 2200+ Tbred.
Personally I've got this 80mm fan on my HSF and a more powerfull 92mm fan in the case, right on top of the 80mm fan, creating a "tunnel" for the air, gotta add a tube to that and it'll be complete

Here is the best I have ever found and I love it on my XP 2200. Stock is 32C full load is 37C.

http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/images/bu0jytxx.jpg

Cooler Master has produced a heatsink utilizing heat pipe technology. The HHC-001 has an easy to install clip and its relatively small footprint is compatible with most motherboards. Comes with instructions and thermal grease.

Heatsink dimensions: L80 x W60 x H44 (mm)
Heatsink material: Copper
Interface material: Thermal grease (I did switch it out to AS 2)

Fan Spec
Dimensions: 60 x 60 x 25mm
Rated Voltage: 12VDC
Rated Speed: 6800rpm
Airflow: 36.11CFM
Noise Level: 39dBA

i have bought termatake volcano 9 smart fan
1 do i place the temp probe under the cpu chip and do i thread the thin wire between the copper pins
2 i have the heatsink fan running at 5200 rpm but the temp has dropped by 2 degrees only
3 i have used artec heatpad and not thermal grease
4 i am running 2x 92 case fan 1 intake +1 exhaust
5 my psu has 2 80 fans in it 1 intake inside the cas and 1 exhaust

now i am wandering if i have too many exhaust fans and only 1 intake

HEY! I don't think it is the intake and exhaust fans.Your case temp shouldn't be causein the high temps.I think it is the heatsink. For that fan to only drop the temp a couple degrees is not right I think.Maybe try some goop on the cpu or get a better heatsink.I got my volcano 9 that I am not usein now.I got a water cooled iceberg now.I use the great smart fan 2 for the rad and the heatsink is just sittin in the box.Send me a e-mail if ya want it cheap or maybe a trade for somethin?Sublime

I had the VOLCANO 9 with my last cpu a XP2100 (a locked palomino core) and left it locked and did ocing with it by upping the FSB which is the hottest way to OC 1733@1850. IDLE on normal S.F day nite IDLE 46-49 max 49-54 gaming. At the time I had it, it was the bang for the buck cooler At $17 it lets you oc. Double the cfm that a louder smaller delta not as loud but but is still a bit up in the noise but not a whine like delta's.

I was not a fan of the wiring and also the thin copper slug too before I moved up to the XP2600 333 I got the XDREAM from Coolermaster its another 80mm adjustable fan, huge cooler and copper slug too. the wires are made better and the copper slug is thicker and temps went back down by 2c in idle and max, yet the cfms are in 60s not 80s like v9 I sold the 5 month old xp2100 for oem price at the time $65 due to its a retail but 5 months used, and he has a new TTV9 on it and its doing fine.

Now I have the XP2600 on a Vantec AEROFLOW a 5600 rpm 35 cfm 70mm fan. The fans not much thicker than a videocard fan or bigger, the cooler is not small but smallish with a shiny copper center slug I get temps of max 53c gaming ocing 192MHz

MOST WHITE COMPOUNDS DO JUST OK but the silver or better name white compounds do a tad better
Coolermaster & Antec both make silver and good white compounds
Artic. Silver does just Silver and is harder to get most pc places have the other two.
Some of the bigger name cooler makers have good white only compounds. I am using good white that came with Vantec and Coolermaster Antec and Global win are the only white compound I would use no 1$ stuff no name stuff its to thin or watey I used to like white thermal compound from radio shack but no more too watery.
DONT get the compound at CompUSA that looks silver. The company that makes it is in china and have zero silver in it. This was shown in many test online.

Dam I know too much about this

here it is on the mobo thing is friggin huge it only runs at 2500 rpm in normal mode with a fan that huge it doesnt have to, and it only runs at 1350 rpm in silent mode at a quiet 20dB and 25dB in normal mode. Compared to the stock Intel cooler, the Zalman was able to run a 3.06 P4 at 3.7GHz at a lower temperature than the Intel cooler did at 3.06GHz! yeah thats cooling power
