Computer illiterate - need help badly
Okay, it seems the my Dell laptop no longer produces sound from the speakers. They do not work at all.
Apparently I am missing a driver, something called Microsoft HD Audio driver to make them work. It is the only answer I got. Geek Squad wants to charge me an arm and a leg to fix the problem, I'm a student and can't afford that, I just want my audio to work on my laptop again  I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 Built in December 2006, does anyone know what to do. Dell support wont do anything for free, I need to pay, so I am hoping i can get some help or recommendations here as to figure out what I need and where I can find it for free. PLEASE! someone help, I will be forever thankful. Cheers, Studentoflife

Welcome to MajorGeeks! You said it is a laptop built in '06, so I am guessing WinXP? Have you gone to Dell's website and tried to find the driver for your onboard sound?
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid= If that does not help, do you have any yellow exclamation marks in control panel-system-device manager?
