Default older mac powerbok

Hi, I inherited a powerbook g4 from my daughter. It has osx 10.2.8 and Internet Explorer 5.2. In both cases, all the download sites I find, including Microsoft, require a newer version for me to update my version!! I would like to hear any suggestions as to how to get the intervening versions. The current ones aren't allowing me to display internet explorer correctly, etc.

Thanks for any help.

Are you trying to upgrade Mac OS or Internet Explorer?

I am trying to upgrade the OS. I understand that IE is not supported beyond a certain version on the Powerbook.

Thanks

The most current version of Apple OS is 10.6 or Snow Leopard. An Intel processor (as opposed to a PowerPC processor) is required for Snow Leopard. You can check what you have by clicking on the Apple menu and selecting 'About this Mac'. I suspect you have a PowerPC processor which means you could upgrade to Leopard (10.5), but not Snow Leopard.

The thing is, now that 10.6 is out, I don't know whether Apple still sells 10.5. You should be able to find a copy somewhere. I'd try MacMall or another of the online retailers. You might also check eBay or craiglist. Either way, make sure you get the full version rather than an upgrade disk.
