How come I cannot see links? In any post, I cannot see the links. It's pretty weird. And, it won't let me upload a screenshot.

Excellent! I've learned something today! And also shared the knowledge at a cooking site I belong to, where they are forcing ads on all of us (we used to pay a membership fee so we didn't see them) and thus the staff is recommending Firefox with Adblock Plus to everyone.
They hate me because I have tech knowledge and resources for the stuff I don't know. ![]()

Hi all
Would like to add something here and dont take this the wrong way, but blocking adverts on this forum on mass would only hurt the forum, as its advertising that pays to keep it open! if you are a member you dont see adverts when you are logged in, its only when you are not, this was implemented to cause less adverts for members but non-members should signup. Some larger sites and forums, need ad revenue to continue offering a service, its not cheap to host a site like this and its bandwidth, storage costs. Just a thought for the day ![]()

Very true, Halo! I don't use Adblock Plus myself (YET), but sometimes there is a line. For instance, the site I was talking about. For years they have offered a paid membership, which added some features (all of which are common for free on other boards, such as private messaging) but the primary reason the vast majority of us paid the yearly membership fee was to avoid ads. Now they are no longer offering the paid memberships, and are billing it as being "fair" to non-paying members by offering them the expanded features of the site...but everyone will have to see ads.
The end result is that apparently fistloads of cash are made via annoying popup, flash, popunder, and mouseover ads that 2/3 of a site's several hundred thousand members paying $25 per year cannot match. It boggles the mind, and I won't be playing. I just realized I'm verging on breaking the rules. I'm not bad-mouthing them (if I had been, I would've mentioned their name ), I'm just using them to illustrate a point from the user side of the equation. ![]()

Hi Tibbs
To be honest, I avoid paid for forums like the plague as I dont see why you should have to pay for what is in essence amature tech support, and I mean this in the best possible way, while I maybe a tech specialist in Windows Desktop.. I do not charge for the advise I offer on this or other forii. Reason being is its not a manufacturers support option, its just a personal option, and if I did charge it would mean I would be 100% responsible for follow-up support for ever, and I know of no forum in the paid sector that offers this level of support, its users just like us offering our knowledge to help others.

Oh, definitely! The one I'm talking about is for food and recipes...it is decidedly NOT a tech site!
I am the end-all, be-all of their collective computer/internet knowledge. ![]()

For food and recipies then dont think I would ever pay for spatula support
![]() I do see why adverts are needed, but making folk pay for various addons to a site is poor, a one off total fee is not unreasonable (we have a choice as users, use or dont use a site), but paying again and again if thats what is happening is bad.

It was worth paying them $24 a year to not have to deal with their obnoxious and overbearing ads.
I highly doubt I'll frequent the site as much when they start forcing ads on everyone. I can barely stand it for the 30-ish seconds it takes me to sign in.
