Tweaking a Notebook

short of O/Cing the processor is there any tweaks i can tweak to get this thing to perform better/faster?

im on a laptop:
HP zd7010us
P4@2.66GHz
512MB RAM (now at 1024MB after upgrade)

i guess im lookin to get it to boot faster and whatnot.
my real problem is with running Lightwave3D.
its still too slow for my tastes, even with al that RAM.
any ideas would be helpful.

Best bet is to read through here and apply some tweaks like disabling unneeded services and startup items that may be hogging cpu and ram. Laptops simply do not perform as well as a desktop machine, but like anything else, can be tweaked.
