Shot a friend's a few times. Gotta wait for the smoke to clear to see what you hit.

I have a .50 Hawkin. Also A Ruger .45 Old Army black powder revolver. Love shooting them both.

Used to have a .45 Hawkin, it was alot of fun to shoot. Do the 50's kick very bad? I remember mine didn't have the kick I expected, might have been the powder I was using, or I was shooting a .35 Marlin and a Ruger 7mm Magnum around the same time and was comparing it to them. Steve

Kick depends on the powder load, and the bullet grain weight. I have loaded them so that even a cannoli eater could shoot it,, and loaded it so it kicked me like a mutant Mule on steroids.

I may have been using a lighter load, it was the first muzzle loader I owned and probably being a little careful. Should have experimented a little more. Steve

Actually, I've found that a load that has just enough powder and bullet weight for what you are shooting, with the smallest amount of kick necessary for the results you are looking for, is a LOT more accurate, and a REALLY LOT more comfortable. :D

All this talk of blackpowder shooting makes miss my .44s one Navy Colt the other a Remington like the one Clint used in "Pale Rider" with the roll out cylinders (an early version of speed loading). You want to create a real big boom with lots of smoke try a blackpowder side by side shotgun...which puts out a big flash that lights up the area around when shot in the dark.

Actually no, the 50's have a very smooth back kick, well actually its more of a real good nudge. We only used 80 grain of powder, because frankly speaking, to use more more in there the excess would only blow out the end of the barrel, some of it more than likley would not ignite, and one risks blowing the barrel right off the stock.

I put a pretty good hole in the coffee can we was shooting at from 75 paces ( about one hundred yards). I pulled off seven rounds with this particular rifle, and there was no discomfort the next day.

A geek shootin' party??? You mean a party where geeks shoot stuff, right? Not where partying shooters shoot geeks??

If so,, I think that would be one fantastic idea!! Full range shoot. Rifle, pistol,, trap/sporting clays, A dummy set up for Kodo and his Ninja sword,, Target kitchen utensil throwing range for Wenchie, Long range Ban Button shooting for our distinguished mods,, Super Duper long range firing for our resident Load and trajectory astronaut,, We could even get a Rice Bike to hang from a tree as a target for the Harley geeks,,,

I'm getting a bit carried away here,, but it does sound like a great time.

I have a 50 cal replica and a walker 45 6 shooter. What a blast! I could periodically bullseye at 100 yards (rifle).

Check out the hood of the Jeep behind me, there's a Remington .12 gauge, and a remington .22. My brother brought his 9mm Ruger semi-auto just to spice things up a little.
