A customer of mine brought in an iBook G4 that will not load the OS. When you start it you hear the chime and see the apple symbol then it goes to a screen that reads:
launchd: can't exec /bin/sh for single user: Input/output error below that is a cursor prompt and it appears that you can enter text commands. I've tried entering in some DOS commands and what little Unix commands that I know but nothing happens. I'm assuming that the OS is some form of OS 10 from the launchd and the /bin/sh statement but it could possibly be one of the older OSes. The client is a reitred teacher and the computer was given to her by the school district when she retired but she was not given any discs with it and they have since upgraded to newer computers and gotten rid of the discs that it would have originally had. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'm not very familiar with Macs. |

If push comes to shove, contact Apple and they'll possibly send you the "Recovery" disks for an ibook of that vintage. They're sometimes (but not always) helpful with that.
I see you already got a reply in the Apple forum, so will leave it at that. I can't do better than those replies.
