Hi

What Windows version you using?
What DirectX version are you using if Windows version is XP? to find this click Start > Run and type dxdiag and hit enter.

Did you upgrade from another video card? if so did you uninstall the previous drivers?

What version Ati driver have you got installed and if not the lastest then try those.

Default Re: ATI (ati2dvag) Display Driver Stopped Responding

Hi and thank you for replying

i have dx 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
xp home (5.1 build2600) service pack 3
motherboard is mocro star inc 865pe/g neo2-p
msi
system model ms -6728
bios version 1.00
ram 3454mb
dxdiag says no probs in dx files
in display it is saying it is using generic video driver which also has a ? on it in device manager and which says ut cant find driver when try to update

i had radeon 9800 pr which went funny on me and is also in the hardware section and was advised to get this card. so did and an extra psu to support it. i first just took the card out and put new one in and then seen i needed to uninstall drivers so did so by add and remove before having to download the ccc with drivers from ati download centre as my dvd drive could see the dvd/installation disk. i have a long running prlb with both my dvd rw and dvd player that i have no idea how to fix.

so when i rebooted just after putting card in it said it found teh new gard ware and wanted instal driver. but could not as not downloaded yet. so downloaded drivers and installed drivers after uninstalling orginal from add and remove even though they stayed in the add and remove window.

i installed drivers and rebooted and than had the prblem ever since with what ever driver they tell me to doewnload and is latest which is 9.10.

the card is dx10 but i run dx 9.0c but i was told it would be ok to run it in dx9 newest driver.

so far i have even gone through the process installing and deleting many times the drivers and even once replaced the offending file with an earlier one which loaded up but in very odd way and ran every program then i have ever had the capability to run in start up run. and these where programs i have deleted or thought i had and years ago. so then put back the newst file instead and restored from earlier time.

I have found that the driver on many forums happens in conflict with a number of programs but they where able to find the problem of the offending program when it kept crashing on same software, i have no such luck since it crashed before windows loads up fully and even before it gives me a chance to even chose windows. i then have to go safe mode and delete files and load up on generic video.
so here i am none the wiser. i have just updated the bios also and i have driver genius professional (freeware) to check and update drivers for me

any clues?

thanks

Hi

What I would do is to download and install Driver Sweeper (BUT do not run it yet) download the lastest driver version for your graphic card BUT dont install yet.

Use Add/Remove and unsinstall your Ati Graphics Driver, then reboot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and then run Driver Sweeper to remove any Ati Drivers found.

Then install the ATi driver you downloaded earlier or from HERE and once installed if not prompted to reboot, reboot into normal mode.

the setup has decected that version 9.09.925 of ccc is already installed
the setup installs an earlier version of ccc ( 2.009.0721.1106)

Hi

Check down the Add/Remove list and see if any other Ati driver is listed and more so it should be called Catalyst Control Center and see if it uninstalls, if not then download this tool Windows Installer Cleanup and then remove the Ati Driver Software if listed.

Then in Safe Mode try the Driver Sweeper to remove anything Ati related it finds.

Yes as it coudl well fix any issues with the AGP card driver and Windows, but we still will need to get rid of any left over old drivers as they seem a bit corrupted if not uninstalling via the normal routes.

Try this old but free application and try it not only in normal mode but safe mode as well http://downloads.guru3d.com/The-Cata...load-1275.html

Only other way I would personally try is to search for the Ati folders in Program Files and delete them, then search the registry for Catalyst, CCC, Ati and delete what is found, but the registry is not something to just go deleting things from as it can fully corrupt your OS, and backups shoudl be made, but try the above first.

Default Re: ATI (ati2dvag) Display Driver Stopped Responding

Hi Halo this is now sorted and thank you very much for your help

what i did was already searched for ati and had hundreds of files to go through and deleted what i could. did the same for ccc. i use the driver sweeaper and it cam eup with a few that would not be removed so did this is safe mode and then it worked. used the windows unistaller you gave me and they took out a lot.

at this point i was sure i had removed everything

bare in mind at this time and since delting first off some sti files i was not able to get a driver for my vga controller and could not even see my intel graphics card (not even know i had one)

then downloaded the hotfix and then also teh driver after that from the 4600 even though there was no mention of agp.

i then tried to instal hotfix. this failed bacuase it could not see any hardware or software to load to. tried th eother driver and the same happend,

i went to driver manager and messed around for a bit and then come across display adapter and then it gave me intel controllers to upload whish i did and it now shows up in my sisplay adapters and after doing this this i was able to install ccc hot fis for some reason and it then seen the card hd 4670 and installed as it should then i installed the other driver and it now all works.

i still have the intel82810 graphics controller in my display adapters and it has a ! over it in yellow with a error code 10 and thsi device cannot start. but dont care as th eother card is now ok and working fine and no loop yet. i am unsure if i should take off this non working intel display adapter as i dont want it to go all wrong again., i dont kno what it is or why its there now since i never had it before. but my thinking is if was the thing that got my installer to see teh 4670 then i will keep it lol,

also i have ! over the ati high definition audio, do i really need this? as i am scared now to mess around with stuff incase it comes back lol.

after a week of pulling out my hair i am now much happier an dthank you halo for your time here.

i think the removing absoultly everything to do with ato approach is what really worked and thank you for the links to those freeware. you should so a stickly about the loop and have those links there and tips on what to do. i say this as many go through it and i must have gone through and joined up to 8 forums trying to resolve it. its worldwide and its ATI fault. part of me thinks because they have done nothing about it , maybe they created it on purpose so that we buy newer software from them!

with regards to my dvd problem they still dont work even with new firmware so i just got a external usb combo so that should do the trick for now

thanks again

Hi

Cheers for the update, and happy its working now, as for the yellow ! marks, its always one of those things you have a 50/50 decision on whether to disable or fix them if all is working ok.

I just wonder if the onboard graphics is still enabled in the BIOS, really it should disable itself once a new 3rd party card is put in AGP or PCI-E slots, but never know it may not have automatically done this, so just check in your BIOS if there is a setting to disable the onboardd VGA?

actually follow the below and attach a log from Everest as mentioned so I can check the hardware types in the PC

Quote:
Download and install Everest to find this info

Once installed run Everest and
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose All Pages > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Hi

Nothing jumps out in your everest report, i was looking for any conflicts with graphic drivers but seems all thats installed is the Ati driver. SO would if your PC is working fine even with the yellow ! marks in Dev Manager, just leave them be for now.
