Default macintosh/final cut issue

Im running Final Cut on a 5 year old G5...editing video to external hard drives.I've started getting a flutter in some of the functions...for instance TRASH will flutter and not open for a few tries...any thoughts?

Mac HD (or what ever your hard drive is called) Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility. Then Select your hard drive (i would do this to both internal and external.( First aid - then repair disk permissions. See if that helps.
