Looking for a maintenance program

On my older Mac, somebody recommended a maintenance program that basically did everything that needed to be done behind the scenes so that I never had to touch anything. I forgot the name of the program and would like to know if there is such a program for the newer Macs. I really have no clue about maintaining a Mac. Before I was told of that other program, I used to use MacJanitor. That seemed to do the trick, but I did start to run into some troubles. Can somebody help me with this, please?

What sort of maintenance task you are mentioning? It may be related with partition management, speed up tool, free space optimization etc.
For new Macs the file system is smart enough to perform smarter than old Macs. But, there may be some tasks where one needs an external application. The DriveToolBox is one such all in pack to optimize your Mac and get the maximum out of it.

Another option is OnyX. Look through the list for OnyX that matches your operating system.

I am not even sure what maintenance tasks I need to do or how to do them. I guess I need to do regular clean-up, free space optimization, etc. Just basic cleaning and maintenance. I am not sure why I cannot find the program name on my old Mac. Is there any certain place or file I can look in on my computer to see what it is? Maybe I can recognize it if I saw it. I just don't see it in my applications.

Sorry to say but there is no such inbuilt application to take care of all the optimization tasks. For this you need to opt for some third party program.
