Rootkit.zeroaccess

So having issues and ran combofix. It told me I had rootkit.zeroaccess

So it ran rebooted and after it was done I couldn't get an IP address from the network tried ipconfig, widows network fix etc. nothing. So ran combofix again still said I had rootkit.zeroaccess it finished and rebooted still no IP so I ran again it rebooted and still no IP.

So here are the logs I have so far, no idea where to go from here. I checked all the other threads about it and didn't really help since they all included steps that said warning for the poster only.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Go to Start ==> Run (or Windows key+R)
   • Type the following in the run box and click OK: notepad c:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf
     (note that there is space after notepad)
   • The above file will open in the notepad.
   • Under TCP/IP Primary Install section find the following: Characteristics = 0xA0
   • Edit 0xA0 and replace it with 0x80 (replace A with 8)
   • Under File menu click Save and close the notepad.
2. Go to Start ==> Control Panel. Double-click Network Connections. Right-click Local Area Connection, and select Properties.
   • On the General tab, click Install a popup window opens.
   • Select Protocol from the list and then click Add.
   • A new window opens, click Have Disk....
   • In the browse... box type c:\windows\inf
     
   • Click OK.
   • Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
   • On the Local Area Connection Properties screen select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Uninstall, and then click Yes.
   • Wait until it asks to restart, and then restart as requested. Continue with the below after restarting.
3. Go to Start ==> Run (or Windows key+R)
   • Type the following in the run box and click OK: notepad c:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf
     (note that there is space after notepad)
   • A file opens in the notepad. Under TCP/IP Primary Install section find the following: Characteristics = 0x80
   • Edit 0x80 and replace it with 0xA0 (replace 8 with A)
   • Under File menu click Save and close the notepad.
4. Go to Start ==> Control Panel. Double-click Network Connections. Right-click Local Area Connection, and select Properties.
   • On the General tab, click Install
   • A popup window opens. Select Protocol.
   • A new popup window opens. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
   • Wait until it asks to restart, and then restart as requested. Continue with the below after restarting.
5. After restart please run Farbar Service Scanner again and save the fss.txt log to attach later.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.

• Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
• Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
• Do not change any check box options!!
• Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

Files to delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\Lappy\Templates\704g2smt3les0vhg27bh254kl6878srlwy60

Folders to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB34035$

• Now click the Execute button.
• Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
• Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
• Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
• A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Then attach the below logs:

• the new FSS.txt log
• C:\avenger.txt
• C:\MGlogs.zip

Well I got impatient and carried on without your sage advice.

I deleted netbt.sys I removed registry containing netbt and I rebooted. Ohh boy then it got fun no network device. I found netbt.bat in your mgtools folder and ran that, it rebooted and viola it worked internet access and apparent clean system. So I ran malwarebytes and still looks good. I will run avenger and fss and mgtools again and post the reports so you can double check me.

Thanks for the response and hopefully going on ahead did not screw things up worse (it doesn't appear so) It will be tonight before logs get posted as I am heading out to work.

Ok I followed your instructions this time and everything seems to be working fine.

Here are the requested log files.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
   • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
   • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
     • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
     • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
6. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
   related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
   • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
     for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
   • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
