Default Everything will be clear.

I want to make a completely clear computer, here is the list of basic parts so far:

http://www.clearpc.ca/catalog/produc...products_id=28
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SKUSearch...iteria=AA77045

(the color scheme will be green leds and UV lights to light up the UV green plastic parts, e.g. molex connectors and etc)

Of course, mobo, ram, cpu, and gpu will all be interchangeable. The question is, can I buy a clear DVD drive, or will I have to mod one myself? Also, I won't have a spinning hard drive, it will be a SSD so I will be able to remake the case out of clear acrylic, and not have to worry about dust getting inside.

Nice Idea, I'd love to see a picture of that when it's all finished.

About the DVD Drive, I've heard about it once, but could not tell you anymore about where to look.

What will you be using this computer for, a night lite in your bedroom or a table lamp in the living room, or maybe a Christmas decoration

Night light in my room, actually. I don't want to have too many lights, just the green one in the PSU and a couple of UV ccfls to light up the PSU molex connectors, and I might get some other UV green fans (ones that don't light up on their own, but are lit up by the UV ccfl). I think I might get the darkened plastic option (light black smoke) so it's not as bright, but still visible.

I'd like to suggest something. If you have any beginner woodworking skills, you could build your case out of plexiglass or acrylic. Basic square cuts, some good acrylic glue and you make the case, exactly how you want it to look, with your own inside config, instead of the standard one.
Just a thought
The whole idea sounds cool, except all those lights will be bright, if you don't shut down at night. :D

That's a good idea, I don't really have any tools, although all I would really need would be a dremel. I'll look into acrylic pricing and see if it's cost-effective (which it probably is).

The difficult thing with making the case myself would be getting the holes for mounting everything measured just right.

When I make something like this with lots of holes its often easier to mock the whole thing up first to see how it fits together then drill holes when the parts are in position rather than drill all the mounting holes first,it's almost impossible to drill all the holes in the right position.

This way you can drill one hole at a time, say your fixing the side panel on,make sure its clamped in the right position drill one corner then put a bolt in and tighten it,then drill the opposite corner and put a bolt in,you can then remove your clamps and move them to the next part.

Once its completely mocked up drill the bulk of your fasteners.

If you make a mistake it also gives you the best chance to recover or try to fix the problem,I've been there drilled and bolted 10 holes and bolts before realising the adjacent part now won't fit rendering both parts useless.

I haven't see a transparent cdrom but this may be helpful,if expensive.

I think the best option would be to totally remove the outer case of the cdrom and mount just the internal parts, that way you could clearly see everything.

Good luck Speculant I look forward to the result
