Hello,
I've been having some trouble in the last day or so. One of the recurring bugs went by the name of Trojan:win32/ramnit.D, which sounded like bad news to say the least when I googled it. It's calmed down in the last few hours after running various scans and over several reboots, as well as the steps required for posting logs here, but I expect it will still be there. I'm wondering if someone would be able to help and advise whether there's anything that can be done, or if it will have to be a clean reinstall? I've tried to follow all the steps in the readme, hopefully these attached logs are ok; Thanks, any help is much appreciated. |

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.
TDSSkiller - How to run Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop
Additionally.... Run this and attach the results. Using ESET's Online Scanner

Hi Kestrel, thanks for helping.
Please find attached the TDDSKiller and MBRcheck logs. The ESET scan picked up no threats, and I couldn't see an option to create any log, only to finish. |

Run the ESET scan again, and let me know what types of infection it is finding. Is it Ramnit specifically?
I am not seeing alot to do from your logs. Java(TM) 6 Update 26 <-- uninstall outdated Java. Delete these files.
Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry. Quote:
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work. Now run the C:\MGtools\Getlogs.bat and attach the new resulting C:\MGlogs.zip.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Kestrel13!
I ran ESET again and it did identify something this time - Java/exploit.Agent.NBH trojan, details of which are in the attached log. Ramnit.D has never appeared on ESET, it was only picked up on Microsoft Security Essentials on Monday (Apr 30), and seemed to keep reappearing after being removed and the pc rebooted, but only for a few hours. Since then, there's been nothing like that, the only unusual thing is my internet connection is quite slow, but obviously that could be totally unrelated. If it helps, the names of the stuff that MSE was originally picking up during that spell on Monday were as follows; Trojan:Win32/Ramnit.D (a dozen or so times) Exploit:Java/CVE-2010-0840.PG Exploit:Java/CVE-2011-3544.A Trojan:Downloader.Java/open connection.PK Trojan:JS/Redirector.GQ Trojan:JS/BlacoleRef.G Ok, I followed your instructions, uninstalled Java, removed the specified files and ran fixME.reg. It did appear to be successful ("The keys and values contained in C:\Users\Kenny\Desktop\fixME.reg have been successfully added to the register"). It only seemed to chang two of the files in the folder, GetUNkey.txt, and runkeys.txt, so hopefully I've done it correctly. |

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
After clicking Fix exit HJT. Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs
Code:
KILLALL::
File::
C:\Users\Kenny\AppData\Local\qekealau.log
C:\Users\Kenny\AppData\Local\sstbalon.log
C:\Users\Kenny\AppData\Local\uehfloqb.log
C:\Users\Kenny\AppData\Local\wjsoxojm.log
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC}]
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall. If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this. Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Hi again Kestrel13!
I followed your instructions and it all seemed to go ok. Please find attached the combofix log and MGtools zip as requested. Everything seems to be running fine thanks to your good self. I've had no problems at all in recent days (touch wood!). D'you think i've maybe been lucky and it was a mild infection, not actually the real ramnit, or something like that? |

Hi again,
That's the new java installed. I'd already uninstalled the old one and the ask toolbar during the last week, they're not on the uninstall list from control panel any more. Are there remnants of them elsewhere that i'll need to delete manually or something? The information on the infection was as follows; Name:Trojan:Win32/Ramnit.D ID: 2147645306 Severity: Severe Category: Trojan Path: process:_pid: (various 4 digit numbers) Detection Origin: Unknown Detection Type: Heuristics Detection Source: System User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Process Name: C:\Users\Kenny\Appdata\Local\lwpbamc\tdennmlc.exe If you need any more info, just let me know. Cheers. |
