Welcome to MajorGeeks, fowlcon
![]() If you are on Windows XP, you will have to create a bootable portable executable (PE) CD in order to run FRST. See the following list of examples: |

No problem. If Startup Repair is not available from the F8 menu while you are booting from the hard drive, then you must use your Windows Vista DVD in order to complete the tasks listed under "To enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc"
For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive. For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive. Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC. Enter System Recovery Options. To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

thanks again thisisu
but as i have posted before i dont ever get the option to recover system the screen i get is slightly different from the ones on the vista forums and i dont get the option to recover on the bottom left hand corner.I can only assume that no recovery option was included on my recovery disc.I will try contacting my manufacturer and see why. Of course if you have any other ideas i would be happy to hear them |

Second question i have a second hard drive would it be possible to install windows to that then i believe i can make that drive bootable.would i then be able to recovery the first drive with that? |

Hello,
Try to enter Safe Mode with Command Prompt using the F8 boot menu Does the ransom screen appear here as well? Or do you see the Command Prompt window? Let me know. |

unfortunatly on any of the safe modes, infact any of the advanced boot options eventually lead to windows and the white virus screen i assume windows is running perfectly well behind but the only thing i can do is get on to the switch user screen and play about with the ease of access tools

Do you have a blank CD or flash drive?
This should work as I just tested it and worked fine for me. : The Kaspersky WindowsUnlocker utility to fight ransom malware __ Only thing that it doesn't detect is the NoDesktop policy (your desktop will be blank). If this happens to you too, download and run Malwarebytes. You will have to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect. Hope this helps ![]() Last edited by thisisu; 06-03-12 at 14:55.. |
