Lexmark printer - does not see ink cartridge

I have a Lexmark P6250 printer running under Windows 7. It was working fine the other day but now it says to install a black cartridge on the left side. There is one there and was there the other day when this printer was working.

I have removed and reinstalled the cartridge but I get the same message. When I just ignore the message and print a page it prints a blank page. The cartridge is new. I have printed maybe 10 pages with it. Very frustrating!

Likely a defective cartridge. If you still have the sales receipt, I'd take it back to the store and exchange it.
