Default Best Simple PC Games?

Face it. We all have downtime at work that equals boredom; hence the need for simple PC games.

I'm looking for some simple one-player games that can be downloaded to a PC. Here are the criteria:
1. No Internet access required to play the game (just download it once).

2. Not a variant of something Microsoft already includes with Windows (Solitaire, Mahjong, etc.).

3. Will run on older (XP era or netbook) PCs with on-board graphics and 1GB memory.

4. Something that can be easily paused (in case a customer comes in or the boss walks by)

5. Free or reasonably priced, from a safe download site.
If anyone have favorite games along these lines, please post. Thanks.

Torchlight is a good one, I and my friends used to play it.
I think it can meet your demands well. The game is really great with some funny elements. You can google it!

"4. Something that can be easily paused (in case a customer comes in or the boss walks by)"

Maybe use your home PC as your toy, and your work PC for work? Makes the network person's day much easier.

Yep, I am I back as the net nazi at my job.

not a network dependent game, no nazi required!!

Popcap has a few games that are downloadable. Some are limited, some are better than others. Insaniquarium can be played offline if you get the download version. Polar bowling. There was a related golf one too.

Usually once you get one or two decent ones they advertise 30 more that you can try.

The older ones are more simplified and can eve be played windowed if you so wish although that would make them harder. They are very well built and run cleanly, very adicting if you enjoy this type of game.

Very addicting. Very simple and tough as hell at times I have all four.
Great for wasting 5 minutes or a day.
