Computer shutting down while gaming.

Hello all!

I have a, apparently, common problem with my PC for the time being. I bought this sucker about.. 3-4 years ago and it has been running with no complaint for all this time. Until last week or some when I returned from a vacation. I played Battlefield 3 for some time, and it just went and shut it self off during the game. I've been playing this game before, hours on end, without any hiccups, but all of a sudden it decided to do this.

So of course, I have done some searching, used Speccy to check core temperatures, and it seems as if my CPU peaks at 90 and then dies. My GPU runs steady at around 50-60 also while gaming.

I took the casing apart, and removed as much dust as possible tried again to no avail. I then took it one step further and applied thermal paste to it, but still no go.

I am now clueless of what to do. As of now, when it's idle, it runs at around 60 degrees.

Any ideas?

Remove and reseat the ram.

Next up is drivers. Your video and sound card are way out of date. As the game is patched and your pc gets older it is possible a driver problem with the updated game is the culprit.

But I seriously think it's a heat issue. We tried to remove the side of the cabinet, then place it next to a open window. Risky and that, but it actually helped cool it down. I suppose, I need to figure out why it's running to hot when it's in the cabinet.

If it is a heat issue i would check all of your fans take a can of air and clean out the case then i would take a damp towel and wipe off the fans.

Thanks for all the answers and suggestions, but as we thought, it was a heat issue, and apparently with the fan. I noticed it was only 2000 RPM in any given situation. Wether it was idle or in a heavy duty game as BF3.

GOt a new one, and it's fixed.
