Default Software Refferals Needed

Can any Geek member give me a referral or two for the following programs:

Need a good Registry auto repair tool for Win 2000, free if available.

Need a program that will find program keys and codes. I have an old program (Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0) and I am trying to run it again and do not have the key for it any longer. Adobe no longer supports the product but I want to keep using it as I am familiar and it works with my old OS, which is Win2000. It was a free program to begin with, so not breaking any rules here. Free if available.

For the above, would prefer to only download from Major Geeks site if at all possible.

Thanks

Registry cleaners are snake oil, IMO. No offense, but if you need help finding one, you probably shouldn't be using one.

http://majorgeeks.com/Product_Key_Finder_d4421.html says they do Adobe products, but it isn't free

Belarc Advisor will give you a full list of of the "program keys and codes" on your computer - maybe not ALL of them, but it should provide most of them; as well as lots of other info about your Win 2000 computer. Download it from here.

According to the Belarc Advisor website; the program will support the following: Operating Systems: Runs on Windows 7, 2008 R2, Vista, 2008, 2003, XP, Windows 2000, NT 4, Me, 98, and 95. Both 32-bit and 64-bit.

The "safest" cleaner that I know of, (for both general cleaning and the registry) I recommend CCleaner... Download it from here

According to the CCleaner website: "Additionally we're backwards compatible with older OSs: Windows 2000"

Very Important Note: If you decide to try it, be sure to set the CCleaner program to perform a "back-up" (of the previous registry settings) before proceeding w/the cleaning.

Good Luck! -- COMP

I run CCleaner on my 2K computers. It isn't a registry repair tool; if you screw it up, you have to restore the registry. That's why you always backup the registry before you start messing with it.
CCleaner will find old, obsolete entries and remove them. Again, when it offers me the chance to save the registry before it cleans, I always say yes.

Hi all
To Cipher. Was just looking for a solid recommendation. Did not want to pick something that was not proven, and I am not in a position to try one on a whim. I have found several reg repair tools but have always been suspicious of giving my registry over to a product like that, so you are right that they are snake oil and I should avoid.

To Ploder and Compuable. I already use CCleaner to great success, have for many years. A nice way to scrub the plaque out of a system and has never caused me any harm that I am aware.

I used to have a small free program, that I downloaded from Geeks site, that would scan your computer and give you all sorts of info on everything, something like Tree does, but it would show you the codes in case you misplaced like I did with Adobe. So wanted to see if I could source my old code and get this all running again, as the good folks at Adobe will not assist with even such a small request. If anyone has any ideas as to how to get my old "Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0" operational again, I would be much grateful.

If you uninstalled the Adobe program, then I suspect the serial number has disappeared.
This might show it
