@falconattack This is meant in a good way.
![]() I was just reading a thread, falconattack is working. I don't think he has english as a first language and his posts are worded slightly different than I'm used to. SO I'm reading along and he is garnering a little info, giving back some tips and in the middle of the posts I read: Quote:
A simple, inexpensive way to raise the laptop off the blankets or whatever cushy stuff may be covering the vents. I have got to say that was the oddest, yet most inventive, simple idea I have seen, since the "Take your side cover off and aim a fan in there" days of cooling. ![]() Great tip falconattack! Not all of them have to be complicated. ![]()

Really? You never thought of that?
I sit with my laptop on my lap with either a magazine or a box of an old PC game called "Vietcong 2" on one side under the laptop and on my leg to keep circulation, hell even a peice of plywood wood work, anything to keep the bottom getting clogged with material that will block airflow. I've also done the side panel and aim fan thing back in the days before I understood proper airflow lol Remember, there is a temporary simple solution for almost anything, that's why they invented Duct Tape ![]()

![]() I have a piece of plywood. And it ain't temporary. And if I have someone else's laptop, I usually do a balancing act on my thighs, to keep the vents open. I just thought that was a good idea, instead of saying, go spend $50 bucks on a poorly designed lap desk.

Absolutely, but the balancing on your thighs thing, more often than not laptops have vents on the sides and underneath, so instead of just balancing on your legs, put a magazine under each side on top of your thighs, this will not only give the laptop better airflow but it will also stop your legs getting hot

I got an old shelf from a refrigerator, bent it about 1 1/2 inch in the front and back.
Does really well.

I remember some woman coming on here a long time ago and asking if she should be concerned that her daughter had developed blisters on her thighs from her laptop.
I think she could have used these tips. ![]()

That is too funny! and @Ned, no never thought of that either (I think that is rather smart). If I think the laptop is getting too hot on the bed, I just usually pick it up and turn it toward the fan. ( )

Well now instead of holding it suspended in the air.... throw a magazine under it @Laura... Oh dear, I actually find that a little frightening.

Yeah, it was pretty funny AND frightening.I was going to link to the thread but it's someone that's been here a bunch, so figured I'd better not.

Funny how threads go where they will. I didn't think of this as tips, but it looks like there are a few. ![]() I actually have a section of old PC desk, cut slightly bigger than my laptop and with additional space for a mouse pad. I rounded the bottom edges and and sanded the sides. Works well. I usually have the cooler under it, too, but run it only when it is hot. And the $40 plus dollar lap desk sits behind a door, in the spare bedroom.

@ Glooz: Yeah the two books is one way to do it, but not that great, as the lappy will tend to slide off and be a rather uneven foundation. I just stick mine on a tea tray if I want to compute in bed or lap. Yeah, you can buy the plastic tray glued to a cushion thingy at most discount stores, but the tea tray I have is on hand and cheap - I need cheep
. You can wedge something small and flat underneath the rear of the laptop if you need more clearance.![]() @ laura: Yikes! Blisters on the thighs from a laptop and not being sure what the cause is, is like placing your hand on a hotplate on the stove and asking why you smell flesh burning. ![]()

I use those oversized coffe-table books, or a free standing laptop table. Unless it's winter, then I snuggle up to the vent.

If you've ever been to a REALLY nice chinese restaurant, the chopsticks will be available in a little triangular tube.
We've got them all over the place to prop up the laptops in the house. ![]()
