Default A botched software install screwed up my monitor's drivers?

Hi,

Sorry to bother you w/a lowly question. I just bought Sony's Vegas editing program. It wouldn't install, but managed to thoroughly screw up my monitor's drivers(?)... My monitor now won't show the whole screen. There are blackened areas at top & bottom of screen. I have to move the inner view around by placing my mouse on the borders... How do I fix this, please? I tried downloading the DirctX driver again. It didn't work.

Thank You.

We need a little info.
What is your PC's make and full model number? If custom, what is the motherboard?
Does Device Manager show the driver to be bad?
You can go to your manufacturer's site, find the page for your model, and install the drivers you need or one of us can find them, once we get some info on your PC.
Also, download Everest and post the report. |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 Download

When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)

Hi,

Thank You for replying. I tried updating drivers yesterday. No Joy. The problems continued. Later that night, I found the system restore. At first, I thought it didn't work. Then, this morning, all is normal again. I guess it required one more reboot(?).

While I have your ear, though. Another basic question, please. I have a ten year old, custom built system. It has an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro video card. If I buy a newer LCD monitor. Will I be able to simply plug N play it through the card's DVI port?

Thanks again.

Yes, there should be no problem, as long as the new monitor has a DVI connection.
You may want to update all your display drivers, on that machine, but it should work.

Glad you got your original problem fixed.
