I am trying to make an image of my powerbook which is running 10.4.8.
I boot it off a firewire drive and connect that to another computer in target disk mode. The image is set to be created on the target disk. disk utility begins the process but stops after a few minutes with an input output error.
I have successfully created images with this process many times.
What could be hanging it up this time??

Not sure why it is getting the error, but there is an easier way to do this.

1st, download an app called Super Duper, from www.shirt-pocket.com.

Install it to your FireWire Hard Drive. You can boot off of your FireWire Hard Drive and run the Super Duper app to make an image of your Powerbook's HD. Just make sure that there is enough free space on the FireWire drive to create the image. The image size will be roughly how much data is used on the disk, not the size of the entire HD. If you know how to use Disk Utility, then I probably shouldn't have to explain how to use Super Duper, it's very easy.

Restoring is a cinch too, should you need to.
