Jetico firewall works in Vista, but some have had problems with it as it still is beta, so I would be waiting for Comodo or ZonaAlarm to release their compatible ones.
The Vista firewall will block, however you will need to create rules http://www.microsoft.com/technet/com...uy/cg0106.mspx

I'm using Vista Firewall Control. It is to set up and has in/out control and is easily configurable. As Halo said Jetico and Comodo are not ready, especially Jetico which so screwed my friend's install, he had to reinstall Vista from scratch. I'm also waiting for ZA as that is and hopefully will be the best FW.

I gave you one option thats available in Jetico and Augie gave you another in Vista Firewall Control.... but care is needed with the first, sadly the big boys in free firewalls are not ready with their products.
the rest was info as the Vista firewall can do many things however sadly by design ( because of corporations getting knickers in twist the firewall outbound was defaultly turned off and not persued as what could have been a superb in/out firewall with easy options ) it is not easy to control if you are not used to rule based firewalls, one of my major beefs with Vista is the firewall.

Windows 7/vista as mentioned above works very well. Tried SEVERAL others over the last few days, either had a lock up, crash or no effect other than to freeze my internet connection, tried this and all is well FINALLY.

Comodo Firewall: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-...y/firewall.php
Scroll down to the bottom, it clearly states that it is compatible with WinXP and Vista. Online Armor: http://www.tallemu.com/free-firewall...-software.html Also states that it is Vista compatible. The description for Zone Alarm here at Major Geeks says it's Vista compatible, but I couldn't find any info about the free version at the developer's home page. All three of these firewalls are available right here at Major Geeks in the Firewalls section: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?id=34 Last edited by dlb; 08-29-09 at 03:18.. |
