I installed a lite on dvd drive in a friends cpu (xp home service pack2). The os detects the drive then wants a driver. There is no driver for this device. Every time I reboot windows lauches the found new hardware wizard and wants a driver. If I cancel this the os uses cdrom.sys as a driver. The drive works fine but on every new boot it still lauches the found new hardware wizard. Please help.

There must be a driver somewhere, go online and search for the brand, model number and drivers.

Recent Operating Systems do not require drivers for optical drives.

What is the driver name? If it cannot be found, it should tell you what driver it could not find.

Visit your motherboard maker's web site and download and install the newest chipset drivers available. As Adrynalyne stated above, optical drives do not require their own seperate drivers, esp. not in WinXP. You may have a corrupt system file in there somewhere.... maybe try Dial_a_Fix or run the system file checker (you'll need the XP CD in the drive) or maybe a system restore to before the problem started.....
