Last night I was online and something flashed across my computer...it looked similar to an automatic software update...it came and went pretty quickly. Right after that Firefix error msg popped up and quit. I tried opening again...and still got the error msg. So I tried IE and same thing.

I'm on a self-built PC that's about 3 years old. I'm running XP. FF is the latest version and IE 7.0.

I did the Windows XP cleaning procedure and now IE works. FF is still not opening. (Thank goodness I keep Opera on my machine or I wouldn't have been able to log in here to get this far!)

Here are my logs: I know the mal one is on my computer somewhere, but I can't find it!! >.<

I'd also like to see the log from MWB's.

In the meantime, Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:
    Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

Now go to start / run / and type "services.msc" without quotes and make sure that service is gone.

Then use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Chris\LOCALS~1\Temp\MSI313.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Local Settings\Application Data\gdipfo~1.dat

Then use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2"
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3"
    Java(TM) 6 Update 4"
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5"
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.

    * Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    * Under Main choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

    * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

    * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    Now reboot and install:
    Java Runtime 6

Tell me how things are running.

Ok, I followed the steps. Did not find either file you had me search for.

Firefox will open to a blank page, but as soon as it is asked to go to a web address, it starts to load then freezes.

If you close it then reopen, the err msg is that FF is currently running and either close the application or restart the computer.

I would first try uninstalling it through add/remove programs. And then re-installing. Check your task manager and stop all instances of firefox.exe if they are running.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)

    * Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
    * "%userprofile%\Desktop\combo-fix" /u
o Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
o This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    * Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.

    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    8. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:

    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
