I'm looking at building my first PC and need to know what the difference between the two graphics cards below are, they're both 256MB so why the big difference in price?

    256MB GF 6800GT PCI-EX DDR3 TV-OUT + DVI MSI - £300
    256MB GF 6600TD PCI EXPRESS TV-OUT + DVI MSI - £100

    Thanks for any response.

they have completely different graphics chipsets.

the more expensive one, the 6800GT is running the nVidia 6800GT graphics chipset, with 16 pixel pipelines. It is one of the best cards on the market right now, and is nearly twice as good as the cheaper one.

the cheaper one is running the nvidia 6600 chipset, which is great--for a budget card. it will run all of todays games with respectable graphics settings, but it only has 8 pixel pipelines, and doesnt compare to the 6800.

if you are very into gaming, the 6800GT is your best option, hands down. However, if you only do lite gaming, or arent too concerned about turning game graphics up to their highest levels, the 6600GT is a great choice, as it currently hold the best price to performance value.
