    Hi All,

I'm currently getting my Aunties computer up to speed and have found a number of different Malware issues through running the programs in your steps.

The computer was running unbelievably slow before running Malwarebytes but now runs at an ok speed.

I have never come across a computer this infected, as for her browsing history I suspect her overgrown son has watched a huuuge amount of porn on this.

I have followed the instructions on this forum step by step and attached all the logs. Appreciate the help with this people :)

    Cheers

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Yes it is very badly infected. In fact, it may really be a better idea for this PC to be wiped and reinstall. There are signs of file encryption/locking malware on this PC and it may have lots of files locked/infected and it could spread more and could infect other PCs or devices connected to it. So at best this PC is no longer trust worthy. We can try to cleanup what we see but the only fix for file encryption malware is to completely reinstall no backups of any data on this PC can be made/used because they can carry the infection.

So if you want to continue with just trying to clean what is seen and take your chances ( not recommended ) then continue on with the below.

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Java(TM) 6 Update 13

Now install the current version of Sun Java from:
Make sure that when you install the new version of Java that you uncheck the Install the Ask Toolbar junkware checkbox. Also if it asks if you want to install McAfee Security Scan Plus that you uncheck this too. You do not need to add these unncessary items and to your PC. Also just in case Oracle changes the Java installation in the future to possibly install other junk, uncheck all but just installing Java.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thanks very much for the quick reply, much appreciated. Will try your fix on the weekend and post logs.

Just one question though, while running some of these malware removal tools I have wired this computer into my home router ..potentially a stupid move, is there any chance I've compromised my router with this ransomware? Sorry noob question but I had no idea about ransomware before this post ..malware has become pretty impressive/bad since I last read up on it

    Cheers

    Hi Chaslang,

I've now run through your instructions and attached the logs. I have also attached a screenshot of some messages that pop up in Windows after a reboot. Please let me know if you need any further information, again I appreciate the help.

    Cheers

You're welcome. Okay one more fix to run and then we will have to run another scan tool after I see the follow up logs.

Looking better but the last two items I asked you to fix with HijackThis (analyse.exe) are still showing in your current log. Did you have any problems trying to fix those? Try booting in safe mode and running the fix with HijackThis? Then well still in safe mode, exit HijackThis and then rerun a new scan with it. Do those two lines come right back?

How is the PC running overall?

    Hey,

I tried running in safe mode and removing with hijackthis and everytime after I run the Fix and do another scan those 2 lines come back. The PC appears to be running fine but not sure what's going on here.

    Cheers

It seems like there is some corruption in those registry entries which is preventing them from being removed by HijackThis. Let's try the below to remove and then rebuild the registry keys.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If the above did work properly, now run HijackThis and see if those two registry entries are gone.

    baked_dog Private E-2

    Hey,

Thanks again, looks like that entered into registry successfully but there is another similar process (per highlighted in my attached screenshot) that looks similar. I clicked fix for this item but it keeps coming back too every time I scan again. I have also attached the hijackthis Log.

    Cheers
    Tom

Please repeat my last fix again after boot into safe mode! Also while in safe mode, run HijackThis again and see if that entry is found. If so, try fixing it again. Then you can reboot back to normal mode and return here to report the results. ;)

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    8. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • For Windows 8 and 8.1 system restore see this link: Win 8 System Restore - How to enable/disable
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
