    Hello again,

After unChecking the Comodo BOClean configuration entry for
    • Do NOT show automatic update screen
I began to get an error message that the updater failed.
This occurs shortly after bootup - the automatic update.
The path displayed in the error message was corrupt:
    C:\PROGRA~1\Comodo\CBOClean

When I searched the registry, I found the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    Name Type Data
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    BOC-426 REG-SZ C:\PROGRA~1\Comodo\CBOClean\BOC426.exe

The other entries in this folder had Quotation marks around the
path and program filename. The parameters, if any, are Not in
    quotation marks.

The BOC-426 entry had No quotation marks.

The Online Armor entry is quoted and I know it runs because the firewall
    is active.

Another entry was found with the same path:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache

    Value name Type Data
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    C:\PROGRA~1\Comodo\CBOClean\BOC4UPD.exe REG_SZ COMODO BOClean - Anti-Malware updater

I Uninstalled the program and did a fresh install.
This did not correct the error.

After the reinstall, I corrected the entry several times, both with and withOut the quotation marks, and then immediately did a Restart.
The error repeated and the \CurrentVersion\Run entry gets corrupted Again.
Even when I deleted the entry prior to Restart, it returned in its previous form.
    :confused

I have had problems with similar corrupt paths before in the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\
    directory.
[post=1148945]causes? and fixing 'broken' file association paths[/post]

    When searching for:
    C:\PROGRA~1\
I found many, many such entries????

Many entries found with the following as part of the path:
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1

    Also:
    C:\PROGRA~1\Ahead\Nero\

Many of the corrupted entries had One of the two following entries immediately following:

    Value name: Value data:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Threading Model Apartment

    Threading Model Both

There are Far Too Many of these to repair manually.
I can not do a multiple search/replace with Regedit.
Even if I could, I don't believe that would be a good solution.

Aside from the usual headaches of a complete OS reinstall, this machine
did not come with a full install CD. I would have to do a complete
System Recovery which will install all of the original software, :(
which I do not want. Especially, America Online and McAfee anti-virus.
AOL is a bear to remove and clean up. I still occasionally find traces
of this software. McAfee was also difficult to remove and clean up.

Furthermore, I do intend to pay $200 for a Full Install copy of
    Windows XP Home.

I realize that I've spit out a lot here, but ....
Can anyone offer some help here??

    Thanks,
    mjnc

    P.S.
