    Hi,
    I ran ComboFix after malwarebytes, SAS, and TDSSkiller all failed to remove something that redirected my search results to infected sites. I ran ComboFix in safe mode and it successfully found problems and deleted some files. In IE, my search results don't seem to redirect anymore, but I can't open Chrome or Firefox due to "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." I ran System File Checker and it ran to 100% and closed, but I still get the registry key message.
    I've attached my ComboFix log
    thanks

    You need to attach logs from Malware Bytes Superantispyware and MGTools.

    The error message you are getting will be solved by performing a reboot of the machine.

    So I restarted my computer and chrome/firefox work now, but I lost all my preferences for google chrome like favorites, bookmarks, history, etc. Is there any way to restore them?
    In addition, my theme got reset to windows classic. I hope that's normal

    Well I found out that my bookmarks never disappeared and that I just had to show the bookmarks bar, which disappeared. Strange, as chrome said that all preferences had been deleted or something before.

    Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode

    Uninstall the below outdated Java versions.
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 17
    • Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 16

    I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

    Download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.

    • Double click DeFogger.exe to run the tool.
    • The application window will appear.
    • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
    • Click Yes to continue.
    • A 'Finished!' message will appear.
    • Click OK.
    • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK.

    IMPORTANT!
    If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

    Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    c:\program files\KID
    FileLook::
    c:\windows\system32\ieprov.dll
    c:\windows\system32\bootsrv.dll
    File::
    C:\ProgramData\244862986
    C:\Users\Gregory\AppData\Local\Blusoteviguluse.dat
    c:\users\Gregory\AppData\Local\Ysumi.bin
    Folder::
    c:\programdata\SysServices32
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
    "Taskman"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Please go to virustotal and upload the following files for analysis, and let me know the results.

    • c:\windows\system32\ieprov.dll
    • c:\windows\system32\bootsrv.dll

    Could you please get this: ieprov.dll into a zipped file and attach it for me in your next post? To do this, see the below:

    Please go to start > Run and paste in the following:
    log retrievable @C:\collect.zip

    Run TDSSKiller again and attach the log. (Make sure you have disabled Daemon Tools!)

    Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please ATTACH that report to this thread

    Please download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool

    Run this > Reboot your machine > and Run it again to get rid of remnants of McAfee.

    Install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    You must install some antivirus when we are finished here!

    Delete the C:\collect.zip that you last attached. It harbours a bad file.

    Now I want to further examine this next file.

    Could you please get this: bootsrv.dll into a zipped file and attach it for me in your next post? To do this, see the below:

    Please go to start > Run and paste in the following:
    log retrievable @ C:\collect.zip

    I am seeing the below because you have System Requirements Lab installed, I believed it was malware as is sometimes the case with this. My apologies. But I don't think I broke anything.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon]
    "Taskman"=""

    On the other hand, this needs to go:

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!

    As I review your logs, tell me what malware problems remain.

    None I can notice remain
    The redirects and popups stopped after the first combofix run, actually. and my computer has been running as quick as ever.

    That's good.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    somehow combofix magically uninstalled already but i've done everything else.

    thanks again!

    The MGclean.bat file will clean up from combofix.
