It's usually not the software that you have to worry about, BUT there are plenty of untrustworthy file sharing applications out there. It's what you download with it that can easily have extra unwanted baggage. That and badly configured file sharing software can open up your entire computer/network so others can see/steal everything on your PC.

    Anything at MajorGeeks is clean.

    BitComet
    Vuze (Formerly Azureus)
    µTorrent

Be sure you know just what you are doing before hand, and the potential dangers involved.

    The Dangers Of File Sharing
File-sharing dangers involve more than legal troubles

Vuze, uTorrent, Bitcomet, and the original Bittorrent client to name a few, all available in the the Internet Tools section of Majorgeeks.

An excellent guide to Bittorrent: http://www.slyck.com/bt.php

Be sure to consider the legal and moral ramifications also.

Let's keep to one thread or this gets very confusing for those trying to assist you :) In future, open a new thread for a new issue, rather than hijacking another member's thread or re-opening very old ones.

i was using that for a while and i got a call frim the fcc :-D i also found out that i got caught because i was sharing the file (i don't know how that happened i didn't know how to disable the sharing feature on the program so i uninstalled it and changed programs i don't trust it anymore unless you can tell me how to disable it or tell me of a similar program that you can disable the sharing feature on, the thing about frostwire is that i disabled all the sharing feature thus nothing goes out just comes in

Frostwire, Limewire, MP3 Rocket etc. These are not true torrent clients. Files shared on that sort of P2P are probably more likely to have malware in them.

Chances are that if you use P2P long enough, you will get infected or run into more then one alert from your antivirus. Avast has a P2P Shield that works well.

Not only have you succeeded in hijacking INFOMANS thread, but you are using it to seek information on how to bypass file sharing for the specific person of not getting busted for copyright infringement.

MajorGeeks.com does not support illegal activity and is therefore unable to assist you in bypassing file sharing for the sole purpose you have specified.

You can't. The sharing is built into the Bittorrent protocol and can't be disabled. If you don't want to get busted for sharing copyrighted material, don't mess with it. Otherwise, you take your chances.

now i know that bittorrent can't have it's sharing feature disabled but i am looking for a program that can download a file at a time from a torrent file but can have it's sharing feature disabled (i am using frostwire and i can't choose which files i want to download and which files i don't want so it takes an extremely large amount of time to download)

and sorry lev but some of us don't poop, spit and vomit money (i wish i could)

File sharing is actually a pretty sensitive topic on many forums. Since Frostwires basic purpose is to download copyright protected content, which is illegal, I think Lev was pretty much saying this topic has gone about as far as we can take it.

At least that's how I see it...

And most of us do not justify stealing things because we can not afford them. We get a job. We get a second job. And don't think I am talking crap, I worked 2 jobs most of my life, washing dishes, pumping gas, driving trucks and kept at it and still do today. I have the work related knee and back injuries for life to prove it.

Now, if you were stealing food because you were starving, I could appreciate it, your not, you are stealing games, applications and movies, all which offer free alternatives. This is a Majorgeeks policy, we do not offer assistance once we become aware illegal activities are involved. Lev is a moderator and will get the due respect she deserves. If you do not like our policy, the internet is a very large place, plenty of them discuss these same topics.

sorry guys then i'll try to give up my life of crime thanks for steering me in the right direction (and i don't want to offend anyone but all i do for money is collect change off the floor or go through the crevices in the car or go through the couch cusions, sad isn't it)

although alot of the stuff i get through torrents isn't copy righted

No, there isn't. Remember, the people who may be selling the copyrighted music/movie/software that you may or may not be downloading don't poop, spit and vomit money either. Selling their product is how they make money. If they don't get any, there is no reason for them to continue their work. If that happens, we'll all be a little poorer for it.

Torrents can be a good thing, takes the load off of a few computers and distributes it to many, kind of like folding does...
    0110 1011 can I copyright that?:confused

Unfortunately Baron doesn't want to distribute, only take, which goes against the whole idea.

Baron, you should stick to newsgroups or Rapidshare (filehosting) type of downloading.

what is the best program for me to be able to download torrent videos

  20. Just Playin

Any of the programs mentioned above will work. If you have an older PC or limited memory, uTorrent would be the best choice.
