Well, I've had this computer for a couple of months now, however, its' vista, and I'm still trying to figure things out. If you could please give me some advice I'd really appreciate it. My computer is a HP Pavilion a6700y, it has a AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad-Core Processor, 4GB, 500GB hard drive. Dvd burner with Lightscribe, NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics thing, vista home prem., and I don't know what else you would need (just typed everything that the sticker on it says.

I am running AVAST as my anti-virus. I read somewhere in the forums on here that people like the superantispyware, can I run this with avast?

What is a good (free) program for defragmenting?

What else do I need to put on here to keep it running smoothly?

I am NOT having any problems right now, and I'd like to keep it that way!

Thanks so much for your help.

My husband has a dell also, I'd like to get his running right also. His computer is slower than mine, but he is running vista home (not prem like mine tho):)

Check the amount of RAM in his computer. Dell usually supplies too little RAM. Adding RAM would probably make his computer as speedy as yours.

Yes but just use it as a scanner, dont use any of the "real time" monitoring [if it offers]

    You should also get Malwarebytesantimalware...

Defraggler... but ther are many other good ones aswell.

Get Ccleaner and make sure to run both the "cleaner" & "registry" options regularly [weekly is fine]

That is a good attitude to have :)

    Your welcome.

Tell him to do exactly the same for his, but as plodr pointed out Different ram makes a computer perform different, so does the processor speed.
