I recently did a scan for rootkits, and found a few, tho they said something about being Microsoft, signed by Microsoft or something... are all rootkits bad, or are some necessary for the operation of the OS?
And if they are all bad, and I remove them, will the programs they affected go back to normal, or will I need to reinstall programs or even the OS?
Yea, I'm a dummy on stuff like this.
    Thanks.

No and are you sure they are rootkits or are you just referring to hidden files or processes.

What did you scan with? Attach the log that shows what was detected.

I don't remember which program I used to do the scan, was something online I think...
I just downloaded the AVG rootkit program, and it did not detect anything.
Will try to find the first program and re-run it and see what happens.
    Thanks for the reply.

You're welcome. Are you actually having any problems with your computer. If yes, you should run the READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal procedure sticky thread.
