    fux.....i have a compact presario v1000 thats gving me a SMART 1720 hdd imnient failure warning, i know theres nothing wrong with my hdd since ive been having this problem for about 4 months now and ive already backed up all my stuff anyways. I find pressing f1 button on start up really annoying, can any one help me?? i cant find option in bios where i can turn SMART off...is it a physical switich on the mobo? or is there a program that can disable it in windows??? help would be much appreciated...

    Hi leoleotheiii,

    The drive could be failing however usually they go rather fast when they start to fail. If you have a Seagate drive in the system it may be a fals error. Check the following link for a patch from HP (now owns Compaq) that corrects the false error report from SMART:

    thx.... but thats for desktops, i have a laptop...

    All the patch does is write the new firmware to the Seagate dirve. Desktop or laptop is irrelevant. If you are running a seagate drive then this should fix your problem. You might just go straight to seagate's site for the firmware if in fact you are running a seagate drive.
