    Thank you tim

I went through all the settings no changes to any settings on my desk top or my lap top as the same problem happened to both I thought may be the problem would be the Thomson router but the settings are locked I went into my wireless TCPIP settings and and entered the preferred DNS server settings 212.74.112.66. and the alternate DNS server setings 212.74.112.67 as you mentioned proxy servers
this has cured the problem but I have never had to enter these settings before
as these setting are found automatically so having found a way round the problem I am still looking for changed setting in my system

Many thank for your speedy reply this site is great source of knowledge
