Ok, I've been using this router (it's a NETGEAR WGR614 v9) for probably a year now and have never had any problems with it. It was working just fine last night before I went to bed but now, I just got home, I turned on the laptop and it is not in my list of Wireless Network Connections anymore. I have all of my neighbors connections but mine simply vanished.

    What I tried:

Restarting the laptop, the modem, & the router.. didn't work.
Deleting all the wireless/network drivers and restarting the pc to have them auto reinstalled... didn't work.
Popped in the CD that came with the router and updated the driver and "reinstalled" wireless network... didn't work either.

The only way I can connect to the internet, is to have the laptop hardwired to the router OR the modem via ethernet. Both works (in fact, that's what the strange CD instructions told me to do.. connect modem to router via ethernet and then router to pc via ethernet? huh :confused)

No matter what I do, I can not get the laptop to connect to (or even find) my router WIRELESSLY! (I mean, if I have wireless router, I should be able to connect wirelessly, right?? or am I asking to much?? :-D )

So, how can I get my wireless connection back or get Windows to recognize my wireless router (without an ethernet cable)?

    Thanks!

plug into the router and log into the configuration page. go to the wireless settings and disable them save settings or apply, and re-enable them. if that doesnt work then you may need to reset the router by holding the reset button for about 10 seconds then reconfiguring it.

How do I do that? if I type in the 192. etc, it brings me to my modem's page. If I disconnect from the modem and just connect to the router and try that (with any browser) all I get is "no internet connection" or "page can't be displayed".

Also I noticed when I pull up an ipconfig on my laptop, it says "wireless LAN adapter wireless network: media disconnected". How do I get it reconnected?

when you connect to the router with a wired connection and run an ipconfig does it give you a default gateway different from the 192 address that got you to your modem?

when the wireless connection says media disconnected that just means its not connected to a wireless network. it doesnt mean any hardware is disconnected.

Yes! and I typed it in and I'm now on the router's page. I'm looking at the wireless settings and everything looks to be ok.. although I could be looking in the wrong spot.

im looking at a WGR624 but it should look the same. if you look at wireless settings under advanced on the left. there you should be able to turn the wireless radio off and apply then turn it back on again and see if that helps.

So what kind of wireless network card do you have. if you type ipconfig /all it will tell you under your wireless adapter settings. Also what kind of modem do you have?

    Meanie :p :-D

It's a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini Card. Modem is a Actiontec GT701C

I went to Dell's website to see if there were any driver updates and there was one for the wireless card, so I downloaded and installed it and again Windows recognized it, connected to it and about 3 seconds later it disconnected from it and it disappeared again.

Nope. Still not being listed anymore. So I'm guessing the problem is the wireless card now?

Under Wireless settings on the router's page, I changed the channel from auto to 01 and it worked!

it's been about 5 minutes and I'm still connected via wireless, let's hope it stays that way or I'll be back! :-D
