    is there a special process in seting this up (to use as an extra screen so i get a bigger picture than i would with the original screen

    there is usually a fn key on the keyboard of most laptops but most of the time it only enables "clone mode". however you can go to the display properties area of control panel to enable the "extended desktop" for 2 screen dual display. . also works for lcd or plasma tv's that have the supporting 15pin d-sub xvga connector. or some laptops have the newer dvi or hdmi connector for tv support. there all set up about the same.
    tip: if you use a Nvidia display card use the display setup wizard in the nvidia control panel.
