Can't boot in normal mode, tried this in safe mode

    I was able to boot into normal mode previously, but after a while, my computer froze up on the "welcome" screen. The malware that started this would be Malware Defense; I'm not sure if anything else got added on.

    Followed the Read and Run Me First guide, but wasn't able to install SUPERAntiSpyware, or Combofix. Malwarebytes is installed, but won't run. Tried to reinstall Malwarebytes even after renaming it as mb.exe, but it hangs when it's extracting the files.

    RootRepeal and MGtools ran fine. Logs are attached.

    Please double-click the RootRepeal.exe previously downloaded.

    * Select File then Scan
    * On the Select Drives form select drive C by "ticking" the box for drive C and click OK
    * When the scan is complete - highlight each of the following file(s) (one at a time if more then one is listed) by left clicking it. Then use right mouse click and select the Wipe File option only for each file.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTikmprqltew.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTkomlnlpdlr.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTlgibgpporv.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTmpjnblhtgp.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRToyuyrtvnov.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\h8srtshsyst.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\H8SRT1e3c.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\H8SRTa901.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\h8srtkrl32mainweq.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\h8srtmainqt.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\H8SRTnomyhlfrqj.sys
    C:\Documents and Settings\Clement Cho\Local Settings\Temp\H8SRTc55f.tmp
    * After Wiping all files, immediately reboot your pc!

    After reboot, download/install/update and run the scanning tools you couldn't run!

    Now see if you can run ComboFix.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * any logs from scans you could not run before.
    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I didn't want to risk anything happening during a normal mode bootup, so I resumed booting up in safe mode.
    For Root Repeal, I was able to wipe all of the listed files, with the exception of this one:
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\H8SRTa901.tmp

    It did not show up in the list after the Root Repeal scan.

    After this, I booted up in safe mode, and installed Malwarebytes. It updated and scanned.
    I tried to run Combofix, but that didn't work.
    I found out that my computer was able to boot into normal mode, so I went ahead with SAS.
    Installed and ran Combofix after that.

    I tried to run GetLogs.bat in the MGTools folder, but nothing happened. I just saw a window open and then close immediately. I noticed that the MGlogs.zip folder in my C drive didn't change either.

    You have MGTool.exe on your desktop, not directly on your C:\ drive as it should be:
    C:\MGTools.exe

    You are also running ComboFix out of a folder on your desktop, please slide it out of the folder and put it directly on your desktop.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\H8SRTa901.tmp
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\h8srtkrl32mainweq.dll
    c:\windows\IFinst27.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\sysReserve.ini
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\imt3.xml
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\imt4.xml
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\imt5.xml
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\IS-BHMGA.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\IS-Q0ARU.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\IS-V4NGN.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\test.reg
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CLEMENT\Local Settings\Temp\~NSU.TMP

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Here are the logs as requested.
    My computer seems to be running fine now, but I'm not going to be using it regularly until this matter is all resolved. Thanks!

    Your logs are clean.

    Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    You should also uninstall your old versions of Java as well as Ad-Aware.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks Tim!
    Everything seems to be working fine now, and I will follow the recommended tips.
