    Hello-

I have an XP Professional desktop and I was trying to install a Trenda USB wireless adapter. I was running Microsoft Security Essentials (I'm now running Avast) and the MSE caught this Viking virus. I also wanted to do a thorough scan of the machine so I ran all the tools that were explained in the XP Malware removal forum and I have attached all the logs.

    RKreport[1].txt log from RogueKiller.
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
    TDSSKiller log
    HitmanPro log
    MGlogs.zip

    Hi there. :)

Are you purposely using remote control software? Hitman picks up on this.

    • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PLSRemote.exe

No, I have no idea what that is.

    Thanks,
    Brad

Please disable Spybot's TeaTimer whilst we run a small fix.

    How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

Support.com Software <<< Did you pay for this or is it just a free trial??

Re run Hitman and have it remove all that it finds.

    [IMG] Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate this detection:

    • [HJ][PUM] HKLM\[...]\SystemRestore : DisableSR (1) -> FOUND
Place a checkmark next to this item, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O23 - Service: PLSRemote Service (PLSRemoteSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PLSRemote.exe
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Delete this if it still shows by any chance:

    • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PLSRemote.exe

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Hi there. Thanks so much! The Support.com software was not installed by me but by the previous person who was using the machine. I uninstalled it after I ran the initial scans.

This time I ran the scans you said and when I ran Rogue Killer it did not find anything (I think)

When I ran the C:\MGtools\analyse.exe this line did not show up:
    O23 - Service: PLSRemote Service (PLSRemoteSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PLSRemote.exe

I have attached the logs. The only thing that is happening now is the machine is taking a long time to boot up after I click on my account and put in the password. This last time it took about 4 minutes.

I will run the machine the next couple days and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again!

So are you attaching an old MGlogs.zip? Because I STILL see it installed. :confused

I was mistaken, I thought I did uninstall that, along with some other programs that weren't needed. The log I sent was the most recent. I went ahead and uninstalled it.

The last mglogs.zip said: It's Tue April 8, 2014 07:47:16 PM so do this again to be sure.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    • Explain how things are running.

    Glad to hear it. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

its also running better. It used to take over 5 mins to boot into the Admin account and sometimes there were errors. It now takes 3 mins. It gets a little hung up when the desktop appears and its loading the icons on the desktop. As I said, there were a lot of programs like games, screen saver stuff, toolbars etc that were installed and some may have been rogue programs. When its booted up it runs a lot better. I also added some RAM too.
