    HI

Moved your post to a seperate thread of its own and its always wise to have a dedicated thread to your issue as it maybe different to the original posters one.

However you have no report attached to your post or a description of exactly what you issue is, is it the same as the title of the other thread as in Can't find audio driver for intel 82801db ich4 - ac'97 audio controller driver or different?

Please do give us the name of your PC if a OEM one from HP, DELL etc or the name of the motherboard? This app will help http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and once installed and run click Computer > Summary

    Give this a try.
Uninstall your Realtek audio driver (it may say multimedia audio controller) in Device Manager>Sounds, Video, Game Controllers.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html
Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.

    Install your chipset driver:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=757&DwnldID=8178&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng
Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.
    Then install this audio driver:

MS says to do this, but I haven't seen it work yet.
Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.
On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.
Try unistalling the driver through Add/Remove Programs.

i have switched auto restart when system crashes and the problem seems to be coming from installing portcl.sys or something the system reboots when it is being installed is there any fix for this

I'm not sure what is causing that. Maybe, a leftover registry entry.
Make sure you uninstall any Realtek audio before trying a new install.
Run CCleaner's Registry tool a couple of times to be sure it caught everything.
    Try again with this driver.

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=1066&DwnldID=8198&strOSs=45&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Home%20Edition&lang=eng

If it happens again. Check for Realtek audio again and uninstall if there, then run this app:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2579.html

    Set a Restore Point.
Click clean the registry, click OK, when finished, Click Select, Click Select All Green Items, (DO NOT choose any other option)
Click Action, Click Delete All Selected Items. It will ask to back up, select Yes.
    Then try your install again.

i have succesfully installed realtek audio driver by replacing portls.sys with KB920872 but when i restarted my computer it became unstable and reboots after a few minutes. is there something wrong with the process?

You should have your Windows updated fully, yes. I don't know if that will fix ALL your problems, though.
I don't use XP but here is a collection of Hotfixes, that may help.
Set a restore point first, in case you have trouble.
