    Hi,

I use TrendMicro Office Scan as my AV software. Actually, I didn't have a choice. Everybody on my network is forced to put it on their computers. Now, when I right click its icon on the bottom right of the screen and choose "unload" it asks for a password, which, of course, I don't know. Searching around the internet I found a trick to stop this service which is to go the DOS and to type in:

    net stop "OfficeScanNT Listener"
    net stop "OfficeScanNT RealTime Scan"

Apparently this is supposed to be a good exploitation of Windows's vunerability. But anyways the scan stops successfully, but then a whole bunch of my programs declare "we have encountered a problem and need to be shut down." Furthermore, Trendmicro icon on the System Tray is still around, only it's red instead of blue. Right-clicking it and choosing OfficeScan Main yields "The OfficeClient is not running."

It seems as if this is not the proper way to solve my problem. Anybody's got an idea to stop Trendmicro, and even to uninstall it for good (without having to know the password)?

    Thanks in advance,

    ---
Background info: Windows XP SP2, Inspiron 1100. I have no firewalls or AV softwares (beside Trendmicro).

Why are you uninstalling your only anti virus software?

I had this problem with one I had installed on a home computer

If you go into the Trend folder on the harddrive there is a file called PCCTool.exe or something like that and it is a forced uninstall file for Trend Virus scan.

I would check with your systems admin before atempting any of this though!

    Hi again,

There are no files under the name PCCTool.exe in the Trend folder. There are 3 files: PCCNT.exe, PCCNTMon.exe and PCCNTUpd.exe, which, by their names; suggest to me that they are not what I'm looking for. Obviously I've tried them but they don't uninstall Trend.

The "proper" uninstallation file is called NTRmv.exe, but again, it needs a password.

Anymore ideas guys? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I am sorry I still don't see why you are uninstalling this and really havn't given any good reasons for it. If the admin installed it he probably wanted it there for a reason. Its not your computer but the businesses. Quit messing with stuff you shouldn't be. Admins have enough problems with out having users like you uninstalling things like anti virus.

Oh so I'm the bad guy huh? Not really, because it's MY computer. I just happen to get my Internet Access from a certain entity that requires Trend Micro running which takes up half of the memory on my poor Inspiron 1100, freezes up half of the time, disallows me access to create/modify exe files and firewalls me senselessly.

    Any other suggestions?

p.s. And if you picture me as this 40-year-old guy drooling over porn sites at his paper-mountained desk instead of typing up documents for his boss and assisting his hard-working colleages, then forget it.

If you are required to use it by the access provider, you are violating the Terms of Service by removing it and can be denied access as a result. Perhaps you should consider a different provider?

I've really got to disconnect my web cam.

BTW, what's wrong with being 40, drooling, or porn?

    you guys are seriously funny...

no nothing is wrong with those things...it's just that none of them apply to me that's all :) it's just that I felt that Colemanguy was trying to put me in the stereotype box of cubical employees.

Yes I'm the administrator, and it's MY computer. I was forced to put Trend Micro on (I mean "force" in every sense of the word). And I don't know how a password came to existence in the first place. I could wipe everything off and start anew but that's a very last solution.

And no I cannot get a different provider. I have considered that option though, thanks! It's a personal thing. Please understand.

But hey...despite no sln found chatting to you guys have been quite a pleasure. thanks. maybe 1 day i'll post a topic about something else.

nothing is ever "required" ... remember, the law of God is higher than the law of man, and certainly higher than the law of computers! :D

oh you mean technically? lol....here is how: I know how to shut down the program that could possibly deny me access if Trend is removed (which is Cisco Agent btw), the only thing that remains is to remove Trend itself.

Actually I take what I said back...drooling and porn does apply to me...but I'm not 40...and I'm not at a desk mountained with papers and a fish.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you implying that I should just right-click the folder and choose "Delete" since I own the folder? Cuz the uninstallation file requires a password to be run, not a WINDOWS-based password I don't think, but one incoporated into the Trend program itself.
