When I try to download software or play the internet radio it seems like my internet connection gets disconnected. If I'm downloading, the download will just stop, or if a song is playing on the radio it too will just suddenly stop. The web page will stay but whatever data I'm recieving will stop. Let me give some history here. My system had gotten loaded up with spyware, I tried Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Adaware, Norton Antivirus, CW Shredder, Highjack This, AboutBuster, and Spysweeper. I even tried the new Microsoft Antivirus program. I ran them all in safe mode with the hidden files showing, I also turned system restore off. When the scans were finished and had deleted everything I deleted the temp folders along with the off-line content and also cleared the cookies and emptied the recycle bin. But when I would boot back up in regular mode I would have more spyware than I did before I cleaned the system. I tried this several times. I went to the Hijackthis tutorial and deleted what it said shouldn't be there. I finally had enough of it and reformatted my harddrive, erasing everything and reinstalling Windows. I still have the same problem. It's not my internet connection, I've had the serviceman check my connection and eveything was OK. I use broadband. I've called my internet radio provider and they have been no help. I've searched several internet forums (including this one) and found where other users had experienced similar problems but unfortunately no remedy was listed. I'm at my wits end and am about ready to call Computer Geeks or somebody to come and fix this d&%$ thing. Can anybody help me? I can post a copy of my latest Highjack This log if needed. I use XP Pro and Internet Explorer 6. Thanks, gatorwes

Are you using any P2P music download programs like Kazaa or others?
    Are using RealPlayer?
What do you use to download and listen to the music?
Are you saying you had these problems immediately after formatting and re-installing your OS?

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Thanks for the response, chaslang. Should I run Hijack This is safe mode or normal operating mode? gatorwes

HJT is always run in normal mode unless otherwise requested. Don't forget to answer my questions.

No I don't use peer to peer nor do I use Real Player. I use Musicmatch Jukebox, but I have tried Wndows Media Player 10 and the Yahoo music service and it does the same on all of them. As I metioned earlier it not only does it with music, but it happens with any type of download I try to perform. I had this problem before I reformatted and immediately after I reformatted.

Also every now and then when I try open IE it doesn't connect, I get the "page not availble" deal. I can leave it alone from a few seconds to a minute or two and IE will open just fine. If it's not spyware, do you think it could be a hardware/ethernet card type of problem? Thanks for your help, gatorwes

First observation: there can be such a thing as too much protection.

    You have these running:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe
    C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeper.exe
    C:\Program Files\interMute\SpySubtract\SpySub.exe
    C:\Program Files\interMute\SpamSubtract\SpamSubtract.exe
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ.exe

They all require a lot of CPU time to do what they do. I would first uninstall MS Antispyware. It's too immature at this time and has a lot of bugs and false positives. I would also get rid of SpySubtract and SpamSubtract (at least SpySubtract) and keep SpySweeper. Did you buy Intermute's programs? Did you buy Webroot's SpySweeper?

After uninstalling two out of the three, is there any improvement.

Also note that your Microsoft Money application may need to be reinstalled the BHO viewer file is missing. That is what the below line from HJT indicates. You can have HJT fix that line (make sure browsers are closed first).
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

I also question why MusicMatch requires these to be running all the time:
    C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\MMDiag.exe
    C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mim.exe

The first one seems like it should be for diagnostic purposes but I don't know since I don't use MusicMatch. I found it to be a pain and problematic with terrible tech support.

I have heard of mim.exe being annoying and it appears to keep watch your hard disk for new files that may be of concern to MusicMatch.

    Check this link out:

As I said: it's a resource hog too and problematic.
