    Hiya Guys~

I need some serious help! I have a decent pc that I had recently built BRAND NEW. It's not even a year old. I'm very anal about running spyware and virus programs to keep it clean and running smooth. And I'm almost neurotic about web browsing and downloading on this computer. I waited almost 15 years to have a computer like this ...so I baby the hell out of it!!! But out of nowhere ...ALL OF A SUDDEN ..it just started running like sludge. I mean SERIOUS SLUDGE!! It barely runs!! It's sooooooooo slow MOST programs won't even load because they time out. It takes IE 5 minutes to come up and I'm lucky if it'll work then. All the spyware programs take almost TEN FULL minutes just to load up. We won't even go into how long it took to actually RUN them!! Because I did ALL the programs and such in the sticky note at the top of this forum. But it's like soooooo impossibly SLOW now!!! It's INSANE!!! I can't do anything on it because it's barely moving and this thing normally moves pretty FAST!! AOL won't even load on it now because it's soooooooooooooooooooo SLOW! Then it starts saying I'm missing files for it and that I need to reinstall them for AOL ...I do that ...and it doesn't take. It's like it's not even reading my input AT ALL!! So that's one of many programs that won't even load now. I ran all the programs and did everything in the STICKY at the top of this forum. STILL NO CHANGE! And this happened out of nowhere! I wasn't downloading or web surfing ...nothing. I wasn't even at the computer. But then when I did sit down to check my mail ... BAM!!! Everything was literally creeping along ...if it loads at all. What could the problem be?? Why would that happen just out of nowhere???

Please please help. The last thing I want to do is reformat the drive. I can't back up any of my files right now because I'm too broke to get CDs or floppys. And I spent a lot of time gathering some of these files and I couldn't replace most of them. [IMG] But honestly ..it Doesn't matter anyway because it's moving too slow to copy anything. It just freezes up or stops responding all together. Even pulling up ALT CONTROL DELETE takes almost a full minute!!

The only thing I did recently was update windows when the automatic update came down...

What in blazes is wrong??? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I'll check back here as much as I can ...while I can. It's getting worse so I may not even be able to pull up IE after this....

    Sigh

Ok.. First off... THANK YOU for your help and being so cool about my lack of knowledge with this. I truly appreciate it! [IMG]

Second ... I haven't done what you suggested yet but I'm about to do it. BUT I did go ahead and UNINSTALL AOL because it was taking up 99% of the CPU which makes NO SENSE! And it was all jacked up. I couldn't even run it ...it kept saying it needed to install files ....I'd let it ...and then it would still NOT run. So I totally uninstalled it ...which sucks a little because I lost all my saved mail and such. But anyway ...the computer SEEMS to be running smoothly again. Something was up with AOL and that makes no sense. Now ...before I reinstall it ...I will do your suggestions and post the results. But I have another question ...what processes or such can I get rid of so there's not so much crap running in the background? I just want what I need to play my games (it's a gaming computer) and get my email. And I want to be protected from viruses, hackers and spyware. So I need my Mcafee firewall and my spyware program... But I have way too many of the spyware stuff ...which one should I chose to use for good? I don't think I need all these other ones running constantly. I bought SpySweeper by Webroot but all the rest are the "free" ones.

So what are your thoughts on that? If you don't mind...that is. [IMG] In the mean time I'll run Highjacker and post the log and do the rest of what you said. Right now I don't have anything hogging the cpu in the processes. Just the system Idle thingie....

    Thanks again! [IMG]
