    hey guys
im on the verge of taking a hammer to my pc. can someone help me out.

i have 2 computers and the 2nd one keeps saying my pci device is disconnected. it was working fine then 1 day it just didnt recognise it so i cant connect to the internet, iv triple checked cables etc i didnt change anything at all on it for it not to work, sometimes it will connect when i turn the pc on maybe once a week then the next day it is gone again. its a e-machines and windows XP. i have no idea what to do iv tried everything i can think of.
    any ideas?

iv reinstalled xp and still no luck, it says found new hardware but wont install it so its got the yellow question mark next to it on device manager. the network adapter shows up as working (realtek) but when i click connections it says its disconected/unplugged which it is not. iv not been able to use the internet for weeks now on that pc and its getting annoying now

Have you tried connecting the ethernet cable from the computer to a different port of the router?

yeah i did try that, the computer which isnt working is my 2nd pc so i have it setup as a 2nd connection so i plug the cable in port 2. though i did try and plug it in directly so in port 1 and disconneted the main pc but it still didnt work

yes bud, sound, video (vga) and PCI. the sound and video i can fix though i did them last time i installed xp. its the PCI which i can not fix. im sure the PCI is the network adapter as i cant connect to the internet. i moved the network adapter to diff slots, checked cables etc... but no luck

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Greetings, bobberbiker, and welcome to MajorGeeks...

If you can supply the exact model number of your machine, I think we'll be able to get you sorted...

If you need help finding that information, please download and run Speccy, a free system information tool.

When the scan completes, click 'File', 'Save as Text file', name the report, and save to an easily found location, such as your Desktop.

Be advised: the report will display your IP Address and Windows Product Key. You may delete this information if you so wish.

Then attach that file to your next post per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

    ********

@tgell and falconattack: sorry! Not trying to bust in - just had that info available...

Here is an image of the computer but I could not find anything on emachines website regarding this model. I could also not find anything relating to the Vendor and device ID that was posted. Is this for your PCI device in Device Manager?

I would download Speccy as Caliban requested and attach the report.

Edit: According to Emachines Upgraders. You have a Trigem Imperial-GL motherboard.

    http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/support/europ_motherboards.shtml

    http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket478/imperial.shtml

You can confirm this with speccy.

When you go into device manager, what is listed under Network Adapter?

    Navigate here

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=P4i65G&o=XP

Realtek LAN driver ver:621 ( is the driver you need )

download the driver ( after each installation reboot is suggested )

    download the driver
    save it
    go to source path
    run exe file
    reboot your machine

    try it !! :wave

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Hi...

    e-Machines can be problematic...

You appear to have an ASRock P4i65G motherboard, so you might try the drivers listed on this page - the order would be the .inf driver first (make sure you reboot), LAN driver (reboot), then the audio, video, etc...

Be advised: since this is turning out to be a missing driver problem, this thread might be moved to the Drivers forum...

Dang it, falconattack and tgell - you guys are pretty quick today! ;)

    Hi Caliban,
So the motherboard listed as a Trigem Imperial-GL at emachines upgraders is actually an ASRock?

  30. Caliban

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Hey, tgell..

I was just going by the Speccy report listing the mobo as a P4i65G, which I translated to ASRock - who knows who actually manufactures the board?

Shouldn't matter - the basics should be roughly the same as far as chipset, sockets, etc...

According to your screenshot, your network adapter is working fine. You can check by right clicking and select properties. It should say if the device is working properly.

it does yes but the PCI is not working...i figured the PCI was to do with the internet?
i can not connect to the internet at all. it says its unplugged...but it isnt. iv used the same cable on my other pc and it connects fine so not a cable issue and when it was working last the PCI went away...so its got to be related somehow

    PCI device http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000629.htm

It looks like the NIC is okay because Device manager doesn't have a yellow ! or red X at it.
The fact that it says disconnected could mean a) the ethernet cable is bad or b) the NIC port is disabled. Is there a light at the NIC?

  42. bobberbiker

    bobberbiker Private E-2

there is no option to repair it isnt highlighted so cant click it, installed that driver and still nothing lol, the cable is ok because i use it on my other pc and the green light does come on to show the cable is connected aswell but just wont connect on the pc im having probs with

Have you checked the BIOS to see if your onboard LAN is enabled? When you computer starts to boot tap the DEL button. It should get you into the BIOS setting and then look for onboard LAN.

I am at a loss as to why you cannot connect. Check to see if you have set TCP/IP to obtain an IP address automatically along with DNS.

    http://www.wolfson.cam.ac.uk/computers/roomconnection/setdhcp/windowsxp.html

If that shows as automatic then reset TCP/IP.
In an admin account click START> RUN and then type CMD.
In the command window type the following

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

If that does not work I would say to save a lot of time and headache get one of these.

You should have seen two RJ45 ports on the back of the computer; one port for each ethernet connection. I have a computer that has two. I put masking tape across the port giving me the problem so I wouldn't stick a cable into that port.
