new hard drive replacement

I have purchased a laptop which the owner removed the hard drive for security reasons.
I have now purchased a new hard drive & installed it but on the screen it shows No operating system found.
Can you advise where i need to start.
I have the xp home disc with product key but i need the steps before this.

 

Newly purchased hard drives don't come with an OS installed. Reboot the laptop with the Win XP CD in the optical drive. It should detect the hard drive. Let Windows format the drive and continue with installation.

Ive now installed the xp disc no problem.
The problem i have now faced is when i enter the groups of numbers over the phone i am told not recognised.
I have done this twice and same thing.

 

I have seen that a few of the drivers are missing in the device manager.
Ethernet controller
Mass storage controller
Network controller
PCI device
Video controller + vga compatible.

Any advice where i can dowload these from please

I suspect you mean Vaio and not Vsio as the model.

stick to ethernet, video and wireless and see if that helps.
I would NOT encourage you to tackle BIOS updates and firmware.

Perhaps the original preinstalled if the previous drivers don't fix everything.

Thanks for the link but i did not see any drivers there.

 

What version of Windows was originally installed on the laptop? Did you use the Product Key from the sticker on the laptop?

When you click on Show all Downloads, the attached show what's available for XP.
